Lab Assistant (DL) Lab Assistant (DL) -Laboratory -Posted:May 9, 2018 -Full-Time -Carrollton, TX, United States Company: Diagnostic Laboratories & Radiology DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES -Under the direct and constant supervision of the Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) assist in the performance of the analytical automated laboratory testing. -Follows procedures for handling potentially infectious materials. -Follows strict procedures of asepsis and antisepsis in the performance of duties. -Prepare bar coded specimens for the Chemistry, Hematology and Urine Analyzers. -Assist the CLS in the operation of the analyzer(s) assigned. -Centrifuge and label urine samples and blood samples. -Logging specimens received in the laboratory by checking the type of specimen(s) received versus the test(s) ordered. -Stores or discards specimens for future reference as appropriate. -Set up primary Bacteriological cultures. -Assist the CLS in the set up of the I.D. and susceptibility panel for the automated Vitek 2 instrument. -Prepare blood slides for staining in the Aames automated stainer. -Prepare gram stain slides. -Perform basic preventive maintenance on instruments according to the manufacturers specification. -Assist the CLS in troubleshooting instruments. -Assist the CLS in calling verified results to client (routine and stat) -Locate missing specimens. -Follow up on Results to Follow (RTF) and clerical problems associated with the reports and requests. -Monitor the turnaround time of results (TAT) for compliance in accordance with the lab policies. -Orders, receives, stores and distributes supplies to keep work areas stocked and cleaned. -Answers, handles, screen and transfers telephone calls when necessary EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED -High school graduate or equivalent and minimum 1 year of clinical laboratory experience. -Must have the ability to work in a fast paced environment, effectively interacting with other personnel. -Strong interpersonal skills sufficient to work closely with others on a team. -Must possess speed, consistency and accuracy in meeting the laboratory standard of performance. -Ability to demonstrate flexibility in work environment, performing a variety of changing tasks. -Be able to concentrate and committed to the task assigned. -Display a high level of cognitive, interpretive or judgment skills in troubleshooting instruments. -Have a documentation of training appropriate to ensure that the individual has all the following skills and abilities: -Proper specimen collection appropriate to the test ordered: i.e. specimen requirements for lab test(s). -The skills required for performing basic preventive maintenance and troubleshooting of lab instruments. -A working knowledge of reagent stability and storage. -Awareness of the factors that influence test results. -Skills required to assist the CLS in the operation of fully automated instruments.
