We have an opening for a Behavior Technician. This is a full time position to include working weekends and holidays. Overtime is a requirement as needed. This position will be assigned to behaviorally challenging homes. Southeastern Virginia Training Center is seeking a Direct Support Professional III (Behavior Technician) to support the facilityâ??s mission by providing care to adults primarily diagnosed with intellectual disabilities who may have a secondary diagnosis of mental disorders or severe behavioral challenges. Will act as a lead, and provide training and guidance to DSP I & II staff in the home in regard to behaviors and appropriate interventions to include de-escalation techniques. In addition, will deliver personal support team programs, training, supervision and services to individuals and groups of individuals residing at SEVTC. â?¢ Promote client socialization, self care and development utilizing person centered treatment plans to guide/direct, strengths and weaknesses: motivate independence and self sufficiency among ID/MH. â?¢ Interact with assigned individuals according to treatment plan to assist in meeting individual/unit goals. â?¢ Assist with admissions process by orienting new clients to the home, observing behavior and appearance. â?¢ Provide complete ADL assistance in accordance with selected self care concepts and skills training as needed (e.g., bathing, oral hygiene, hair/nail care, shaving, toileting, eating). â?¢ Provide activity/teaching groups for client care needs with approval of supervisor. â?¢ Attentive to noise, lighting, neatness and security of the home. â?¢ Assist with maintaining a safe, clean and therapeutic environment by actions and/or notifications as required. â?¢ Observe client behavior within milieu and report changes to supervisor. â?¢ Conduct assessments and training for homes to assist staff development and skill sets. â?¢ Assist with interventions (e.g. safety holds and/or restraints) as required. â?¢ Collaborate with personal support team as required for interventions. â?¢ Document observations/interventions according to provided guidelines. â?¢ Share observations with supervisor and personal support team to assist with enhancing client care/treatment plan implementation/revision. â?¢ Attend Personal support team meetings and actively provide pertinent information for clientâ??s plan â?¢ Participate in the house coverage/scheduling to ensure adequate coverage. Overtime is a requirement as needed. â?¢ Participate in orientation of new employees and by assisting in identification/ provision of in-service and continuing education. â?¢ Demonstrate ability to give, accept and appropriately respond to feedback by providing support and focused solution-based feedback. Minimum Qualifications â?¢ Associates Degree in psychology, rehabilitation services, social services or related human services field and/or equivalent combination of education or experience in the Mental Health field supporting behavior intervention & de-escalation is required. â?¢ Experience in a direct care setting for individuals with mental illness, intellectual/developmental disabilities, and/or substance abuse. â?¢ Experience with implementation of recovery principles and techniques for de-escalation. â?¢ Ability to read, write and speak fluently in English language. â?¢ Experience in following behavior support plans in addition to ISPâ??s to include documentation and making suggestions for improvement and strategies. â?¢ Working knowledge of characteristics (and programs for treatment) of mental health disorders to include data collection and detailed ID note documentation. â?¢ Ability to describe individual observations orally and in writing. â?¢ Knowledge of and ability to observe and/or instruct individuals with a variety of mental disorders/severe behaviors/intellectual or developmental disabilities in basic self help, independent living, Day Support, Vocational and social skills. â?¢ Ability to observe and oversee individuals in the home/recreational/social/day support and vocation activities, and document observations. â?¢ Ability to work with multiple individuals not just one to one, in a high intensive behavioral home setting. â?¢ Ability to support and train other staff on how to de-escalate behaviors and prioritize safety for all individuals. â?¢ Ability to remain calm in crisis settings while utilizing appropriate behavioral techniques to return individuals to base line. â?¢ Must be computer literate, including email experience, and able to accurately utilize electronic health records for data entry and retrieval. â?¢ Valid Virginia driverâ??s license required. â?¢ Must successfully complete the facility's Pre-service training program for Direct Support Professional Staff, to include Person Centered Approach techniques, CPR/First Aid Certification, TOVA, medication administration, nutritional management and physical/behavioral management, for continued employment. (Pre service training class is 3 weeks long, with shifts from 8:00 am to 4:30pm and 12:30pm to 9:00pm). Preferred Qualifications â?¢ Bachelorâ??s Degree in psychology, rehabilitation services, social services, or related human services field. â?¢ Experience in a mental health hospital or ID/DD institutional setting. â?¢ One year of supervisory, management or training experience.
