Go to CAPPS Recruit to Sign In GENERAL DESCRIPTION **** Perform routine motor vehicle repair and automotive body work. Work involves replacing or repairing worn or broken parts; repairing damaged automotive body parts; and painting to original condition. Work under moderate supervision with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. The following Military Occupational Specialty codes are generally applicable to this position. Applicants must fully complete the summary of experience to determine if minimum qualifications are met. 91B, 915A, 915E, 2147, 3521, 3524, 3529, 2T3X1, 2T3X2 ESSENTIAL DUTIES **** 1. Perform motor vehicle body repair work and painting. 2. Check, replace, and/or repair electrical and cooling systems and mechanical parts. 3. Perform state vehicle inspections and other scheduled maintenance. 4. Test drive new and repaired vehicles to evaluate for proper operation. 5. Install and remove decals, after-market accessories, and equipment. 6. Maintain records of work performed and parts used. 7. Assist in performing inventories of parts and equipment. 8. Perform other duties as assigned. GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS (Required unless otherwise stated) Education - Graduation from a standard senior high school or the equivalent. Experience - Two (2) or more years of verifiable full-time work experience in an automotive paint and body shop repairing minor body damage, and sanding and preparing vehicles for repainting. _One (1) year of full-time body repair training in an accredited vocational school can substitute for one (1) year of the required work experience. _ Licenses and certifications - Valid driver license from state of residence. Certification in Air Conditioning Refrigerant Recovery and Recycling and State of Texas Motor Vehicle Emissions and Safety Inspectors license or must be obtained within ninety (90) days of employment. Current Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) or Inter-Industry Conference on Auto Collision Repair (ICAR) equivalent certification in automotive collision repair and refinishing is preferred. Technical Knowledge - Thorough knowledge of automotive body repair procedures, equipment, materials, and practice. Knowledge of the correct and safe use of hand and power tools commonly used in automotive body repairs and in applying chemical compounds and paints used in finishing repairs. Knowledge of the safety equipment and procedures applicable to automotive repair facilities and activities. Technician Skills - Ability to judge borders of damage to body parts and to effectively repair and/or remove and replace damaged parts to repair automotive body damage to original condition safely, efficiently and economically. Ability to make sound judgments in determining probable cost of automotive body repairs. Computer Skills Able to use personal computers to access web based diagnostic and service information. Interpersonal Skills - Must exercise excellent interpersonal and customer service skills - position continually requires an ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working/professional relationships with co-workers, supervisors, and internal/external customers. Communications Skills - Must possess basic verbal and written communication skills, and be comfortable speaking or presenting to various and diverse groups. Able to understand, interpret, and effectively apply complex oral and written instructions and procedures. Organizational skills - Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a high-stress, fast-paced, multi-demand environment, and the ability to make sound work-related judgments and decisions.
