  • Responsibilities

    This position will be a member of the Globe Life Valuation team, developing and maintaining models for valuation and financial reporting for the foreign branch operations of American Income Life (AIL). The position will liaise with the Appointed Actuaries of these branches who are outside the United States (Canada and New Zealand). This position is also expected to be involved in corporate projection activities related to the GAAP guidance and statutory earnings forecasts for use in capital planning and for other corporate purposes. Detailed job responsibilities will include:

    • As directed by the Senior Director & Managing Actuary, develop and maintain PolySystems and spreadsheet models for IFRS 17 reporting for the Canadian and New Zealand branch operations.
    • Work cooperatively with Life and Health Pricing, Experience Study, and AIL controller teams to support effective financial reporting for the AIL branches.
    • Work closely with valuation and controller team to complete quarterly and annual valuation/financial reporting tasks.
    • Support the corporate guidance projection activities related to GAAP and statutory earnings as well as risk-based capital requirements.

    Required Skills

    • Solid technical actuarial skills required, including valuation fundamentals and methods, and familiar with the Long Duration Target Improvement (LDTI) and the Principle Based Reserving frameworks (PBR).
    • Understanding of general ledger accounting methods and systems, and experience interacting with financial reporting accountants.
    • Hands-on IFRS 17 reporting experience is preferred but can also be cultivated through the job.
    • Experience with actuarial modeling systems is preferred, such as PolySystems, GGY Axis or Prophet.
    • Strong MS Office (Word, Excel, Access) skills required.
    • Database (SQL) skills required and programming skills (VB) are a plus.
    • Ability to work well in team-based environment.
    • Well-organized, with the ability to handle several projects simultaneously.
    • Well-developed verbal and written communication skills.

    Required Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree required.
    • Associate of the Society of Actuaries (A.S.A.) required.
    • Minimum five years’ experience.
    • Working experience in a valuation role would be preferred.
