  • Responsibilities

    Laboratory Analyst Purpose: Responsible for all scientific aspects of an assigned testing station, including equipment, supplies, software, and documentation.

     

    Skills/Qualifications: A bachelor’s degree in biological, chemical, agricultural, environmental, or related sciences from an accredited college or university, plus at least 4 years of full-time practical experience. Exceptional wet laboratory technique and ability to perform documentation for ISO standards. At least 2 years of experience in a regulated or high throughput laboratory environment. Ability to maintain statistical program data, files, record systems and financial records. Ability to work well under pressure, active listener, effective time management, coordination, critical thinker, use proper judgment and decision making. Working knowledge of microbiology methods for the analysis of environmental, agricultural and food samples, including AOAC, FDA, BAM, ISO. Experience with PCR or ELISA and sterile technique is beneficial.

     

    FLSA/Overtime: This position is an “nonexempt position” under the FLSA (29 U.S.C. 201, et seq.). The federal overtime provisions are contained in the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). Unless exempt, employees covered by the Act must receive overtime pay for hours worked over 40 in a workweek at a rate not less than time and one-half their regular rates of pay. There is no limit in the Act on the number of hours employees aged 16 and older may work in any workweek. The Act does not require overtime pay for work on Saturdays, Sundays, holidays, or regular days of rest, unless overtime is worked on such days.

     

    The Act applies on a workweek basis. An employee's workweek is a fixed and regularly recurring period of 168 hours — seven consecutive 24-hour periods. It need not coincide with the calendar week but may begin on any day and at any hour of the day. Different workweeks may be established for different employees or groups of employees. Averaging of hours over two or more weeks is not permitted. Normally, overtime pay earned in a particular workweek must be paid on the regular pay day for the pay period in which the wages were earned.     OVERTIME IS NOT ALLOWED WITHOUT THE WRTTEN CONSENT OF YOUR SUPERVISOR PRIOR TO PERFORMING ANY OVERTIME DUTIES REQUESTED. YOU MUST TAKE A THIRTY-MINUTE LUNCH WITHOUT WORKING IN ANY FASHION OR FORM AND SHALL NOT TAKE ANY FILES FROM THE OFFICE OR WORK HOME IN THE EVENINGS OR OVER THE WEEKEND.

    Laboratory Analyst Job Duties:

    1. Takes direction from management.
    2. Responsible for assigned instrument calibration and quality controls.
    3. Adheres to laboratory SOP of sample preparation techniques and training procedures.
    4. Performs review of reported data and associated quality control and prepares reports for delivery to client.
    5. Adheres to strict standard operating procedures and ensures laboratory personnel are competent in performing assigned tasks and handling of instrumentation.
    6. Responsible for general instrument troubleshooting.
    7. Ensures that all data generated by the scientific team meet quality control requirements.
    8. Adheres to regulatory compliance with California's Bureau of Cannabis Control laboratory regulations.
    9. Ensures compliance with ISO 17025 accreditation, GLP and ongoing improvement of quality management system.
    10. Adheres to established turn-around times.
    11. Assists in overall upkeep and maintenance of the laboratory.
    12. Ability to operate and maintain analytical instrumentation including, but not limited to HPLC, GC-MS, LC-MS, ICP-MS for Shimadzu software.

     

    Physical Demand: Requires prolonged standing, frequent sitting, bending stooping, and occasional lifting up to 40 pounds. Requires normal range of hearing, color-vision and manual dexterity equipment as needed. Requires ability to work under stressful conditions and possess good communication and problem-solving skills.

     

    Work Condition: The occupant of this positions spends 95% of the time inside air-conditioned work area. The employee may be exposed to biohazardous and chemical materials which require personal protective equipment. All employees are required to be respectful and courteous to coworkers and subordinates.
