    Develop Your Future with Nielsen

    The Emerging Technologist Program develops future Nielsen Data Science experts who can innovate and drive solutions for Nielsen’s internal and external clients. Associates take on roles of increasing responsibility as they participate in exciting development experiences. Our next program begins July 2019.

    Rotational Assignments

    The program includes two one year rotations. These assignments provide challenging on-the-job learning and development opportunities. Associates work on high priority assignments in various business functions

    Examples in Data Science include:

    • Global Research – Work with a global team to develop methodologies for integrating data from consumer, media and other sources to develop country-specific insights on consumer attitudes and behaviors.
    • Process Optimization – Propose approaches for using emerging technologies to enhance and standardize data science capabilities across a range of Nielsen client products.
    • Deepen Analytical Skills – Apply advanced analytic techniques to derive new insights for clients on consumer behavior and media use to help “tell a story” or answer an issue of client concern.
    • Measurement Innovation – Partner with leading data scientists, technology experts and engineers to develop new ways of assessing and measuring a range of consumer attitudes and behaviors to drive new client insights.

    A day in the life of an associate may include: utilizing tools such as Python, Tableau, SAS, etc. to perform complex data analysis, conducting analyses to support innovation initiatives, working with cross-functional teams to productionalize, validate, and optimize methodologies, summarizing, documenting, and communicating research findings to audiences of varying levels of subject matter expertise.

    Selection Criteria:

    • Intellectual curiosity and intense passion for taking on critical challenges;
    • Hand’s-on experience with new technologies, data science approaches, or advance computing in academic, work, and/or extracurricular forums (e.g., hack-a-thons, personal side projects, etc.)
    • Minimum overall GPA of 3.0
    • Fewer than two years full-time work experience
    • Willingness to relocate to New York, NY; Chicago, IL; or Tampa, FL
    • Permanent US work authorization required
    • Anticipated graduation: Associates – Fall 2018 and/or Spring 2019

    B.S. or Master’s in:

    • Statistics

    In addition to meeting the above requirements, candidates should also meet all or most of the following:

    • Experience preferred in one stat package (R, Stata, SAS) as well as with survey, statistical, or business analytics
    • Familiarity with distributed computing techniques and related software (Python, MapReduce, etc.)
