    We are seeking a highly motivated TECHNICAL WRITER to join our team. The Technical Writer will be responsible for leading the mission-essential Systems Engineering and Technical Assistance team in support of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) Research Directorate.

    RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

    This position is with the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency's (NGA) NGA Research Directorate supports the NSG and National Security Strategy by solving hard defense and intelligence problems for the IC and DoD. NGA Research is organized into three technical offices: Foundational GEOINT; Advanced Phenomenologies; and Analytic Technologies. NGA Research delivers capabilities within these technical offices through pods, functionally organized to address specific technology needs and products. The NGA Research Mission Support Office supports the pods and technical offices. It includes Strategic Partnerships and Communications (SPC); Technology Transition, Transfer, and Protection (T3P); Program Planning and Execution (PPE); and the Research Lab Environment (RLE) teams. The Technical Writer must have experience researching, writing, editing, and proofreading technical data for use in publications and other forms of media. Experience creating technical writing products for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to editorial and Government specifications and standards for quality, graphics, coverage, format, and style. This includes the ability to edit and review documents in accordance with language, style, publication, format, classification, and source standards.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Subject all produced video, graphic design, and transcription products to grammatical, typographical, and compositional reviews and corrections to be conducted within the standard or agreed to production timelines prior to final submission to the Government.
    • Provide the necessary services to capture, correct, edit, and output a written digital account of audio and video products. The transcribing process shall leverage relevant software to aid in automated transcriptions with the expectation that the end product will be reviewed, re-edited, and condensed before being provided to the Government.
    • All products shall be reviewed by the Editor to ensure there are no grammatical, typographical or compositional errors.
    • Provide the following types of transcription services to meet the needs of the Government:
      • Oral Histories. Voice recorded interviews, typically 2-4 hours in length.
      • NGA Town Halls. NGA Director-led events.
      • Miscellaneous. Other transcription services as needed.
    • 15 year's experience working with technical projects and/or technical writing;
    • Senior-level (15 years) experience working and visualizing with technical projects and/or technical writing.
    • Exceptional communications skills, with a strong understanding of writing and briefing styles.
    • Strong skills with managing detailed problems and complex processes.
    • Well versed using the AP Style Guide, the Chicago Style Guide, and current DoD writing standards.
    • Working knowledge of the complete transcription process and relevant software to aid in automated transcriptions.

    DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Master's degree or higher in English, Journalism or similar discipline
    • Should be well versed in the following guides:

    • Knowledge, skill, and ability to write, edit, and revise documents that are tailored for high levels of the U.S. government.
    • Excellent command of spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
    • Strong attention to detail and an eye for consistency.
    • Extensive experience using a variety of software used to prepare correspondence, including Microsoft Office programs.
    • Demonstrated success working in fast-paced and challenging environments.
    • Familiar with corporate and government design communication etiquette.

    EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS: Requires a Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, or similar discipline

    YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:

    • 15+ years w/ Bachelor's degree
    • 13+ years w/ Master's degree
