Your Role and Responsibilities

IBM'S INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY AND LICENSING organization is missioned with both defending IBM's vast array of patents and other IP assets, as well as driving a significant amount of IBM's net income through licensing or selling IBM IP.

This team works closely with our clients to identify opportunities to advance their business objectives by leveraging assets from IBM Brands and IBM Research, worldwide. The team is comprised of seasoned IBM sales professionals, offering development professionals and a highly technical staff as well as experienced executives who have a deep understanding of IBM's Patent, Brands and Research product portfolios.

Your Role and Responsibilities

The intern will produce in part or in whole deliverables such as financial model for a new business, a fulsome business plan for an emerging technology, a competitive landscape and positioning analysis in support of a business plan.

Provide critical support to the Alternative Monetization team by participating in complex deals from strategy development to transaction execution for a strategic technology asset(s). Complex deals include minority equity investments in 3rd party companies, spin-outs, transactions with 2 or more firms.

Conduct market research and financial analysis to evaluate opportunities and inform strategic decisions.

Example analysis includes the following:

• Identify competitive trends and value drivers within emerging industries
• Design a business plan and execute financial modeling exercises
• Learning Opportunity: What skills and experience will you be able to learn?
• Market research and analysis skills
• Business model development including financial valuation
• Ability to distill complex topics into actionable insights
• Agile business plan development, collaborative team iteration
• Relationship building and executive communication skills
• This is a summer 2022 position.
• Applicants should be graduate students pursuing a Master’s degree in Business (MBA).
• Candidates must be willing to work onsite in Annapolis Junction, Maryland.

• Technical skills in market analysis and investment analysis
• Leadership skills as demonstrated in work experience and school activities
• Strong communication skills (e.g., presenting to business C-suite, developing materials for presentations)
