Your Role and Responsibilities

As a Data Scientist Intern for Design Research, you will be a part of a thriving User Experience Research Ops team. You will have the opportunity to deliver an impact across 80+ products under IBM's Cloud & Data Platform portfolio. You will work closely with user researchers and designers to:

• Identify user pain points and make recommendations to improve user experience using Data Science and Machine Learning
• Expand and optimize our data collection and data architecture for a team of 75+ user researchers
• Clean, extract, and transform structured and unstructured data to make it more consumable
• Assemble and evaluate large, complex data sets to meet business requirements
• Implement and validate statistical models in a language of your choice
• Work across the entire model lifecycle, including testing and deployment
• Develop front-end interfaces and visualizations for data analysis and insights
• Use data storytelling to communicate findings and actionable insights to researchers, designers, executive, and other stakeholders
• Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements using automation
• Assist in increasing consumption and adoption of behavioral and analytical data and insights
• Provide subject matter expertise to Data Science Design teams to inform user experience design decisions
• Advocate for Data Science and data-driven decisions within the User Research and Design organization

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

• Proven experience with Data Science, Machine Learning, and the CRISP-DM framework
• Advanced programming experience in object-oriented/scripting languages
• Advanced knowledge of SQL and relational databases
• Hands-on experience with creating robust data pipelines
• Strong grasp of REST-based APIs
• Familiarity with Natural Language Processing
• Ability to translate insights into decisions and communicate them to stakeholders

Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise

• Experience with all stages of Data Science life cycle (full-stack Data Science)
• Experience with processing big data and big data technologies (eg. Spark, Hadoop)
• Experience building and optimizing a scalable data architecture
• Familiar with Airtable
• Interest in or knowledge of User Research and Design Thinking
• Understanding of IBM's Cloud and Data Platform offerings
• Exposure to software development and data engineering a plus
• Masters degree
