    Dell is looking for a summer 2023 intern in the fields of environmental affairs/management, public policy, chemistry, and/or electrical, mechanical and/or environmental engineering to work on challenging projects related to energy efficiency, restricted materials, repairability, design for environment, and eco-labels. Dell’s Global Product Compliance Engineering and Environmental Affairs organization is focused on ensuring Dell products meet or exceed environmental regulations and voluntary market access requirements as well as engaging key business segments to enable green innovation and market access.   Work may be focused on one of many of Dell’s product portfolio including desktops, notebooks, servers, storage arrays, etc.

    Role Responsibility:

    Work with the internal Environmental Affairs team for the Americas and Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) to learn about current and future regulations & market-access standards and how these apply to Dell product designs.     

    Lead an assigned project from start to finish over the summer term.  Projects may involve research and technical analysis as well as application to development project activities and/or process improvement.

    Possible projects may include:

    ++Full Product Materials Disclosure and Alternatives Assessment Project++**:  Inventory support and alternatives assessments **

    • Support the development of a full materials inventory for all components, assemblies and/or materials suppliers for our client products (PCs, tablets, etc). A full materials inventory would enable Dell to meet customer expectations for more transparency in product material content, various worldwide regulatory requirements, and support Dell’s 2030 goals. Research and make recommendations around material alternatives and track changing material landscape for technology products. Recommend an intern with a background in Chemistry, Material Science, or Chemical Engineering for this project.

    Keep peer advisor and management informed of key technical and schedule related risks and issues.

    Perform detailed or routine engineering assignments such as assisting with the definition of technical specifications and providing product support and assistance to other internal departments.

    Critical Requirements:

    • Enrolled in an accredited undergraduate program Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science, Environmental Policy, Chemistry, or Material Science.
    • In graduating class of December 2023 or spring 2024.
    • Possess basic understanding of chemicals used in IT products.
    • Able to write and analyze requirements, functional specifications, design specifications, test plans, and documentation.
    • Able to handle responsibilities with effective interpersonal skills. Must be able to effectively interface with others inside and outside the Engineering function.
    • Must have strong communication and presentation skills.
    • Able to synthesize complex issues to communicate technical information to non-technical individuals.  
    • Able to organize and manage multiple projects and set priorities, working independently under aggressive timelines.
