Join us as a hardware engineer in the Telecom Systems Business Infrastructure Engineering team where you will play a key role in the definition and validation of our server, storage, and networking platforms.

    What you’ll achieve

You’ll participate in the architecture and definition of next-generation server, storage, and networking platforms optimized for the telecommunications industry as well as validating various aspects of the hardware. Whether in the lab directly or through remote access, you’ll configure the hardware and software and test various functionality and performance aspects of the systems. You’ll develop test plans and execute them on multiple generations of hardware. You’ll form opinions on improvements to the architecture or to the system configurations, and you’ll help incorporate your opinions into the specification of future generations of the products. You’ll grow to become an expert in modern hardware architecture with a specialty in the 5G radio-access network (RAN) domain. You’ll engage internally across Dell’s engineering community, with vendors, and with customers. You’ll research differences in modern CPU architectures and the various trade-offs between compute performance, power consumption, thermal efficiency, and cost. You’ll have a hand in designing Dell’s products and, ultimately, in the emerging 5G networks across the world.

    You will:

    • Learn modern server hardware architectures and experiment in a hands-on lab setting
    • Apply telecom-specific test requirements to prove functionality and performance on physical hardware
    • Collaborate with and be mentored by senior technologists with expertise in server architecture and in radio-access networks (RANs)
    • Drive independent research on the applicability of ARM architectures in RANs, considering many design aspects across performance, power, thermal, and cost
    • Develop models to help predict design trade-off outcomes
    • Contribute to architectural and technical specifications and refine the technical aspects of product requirements
  • Qualifications

Every Dell Technologies team member brings something unique to the table. Here’s what we are looking for with this role:

    Essential Requirements

    • Electrical engineering or computer engineering major
    • Essential courses completed need to include circuits, electronics, computer architecture, and electromagnetic wave theory
    • Basic familiarity with desktop/laptop computer components and how they interact: CPU, memory, disks, and PCIe cards
    • Basic familiarity with Linux operating systems

    **Desirable Requirements **

    • Elective courses in advanced computer engineering, CPU architectures, and transistor-level / CMOS design
    • Prior experience in assembling, testing, and/or debugging PCs, laptops, or equivalent
    • Basic familiarity with networking/computer communication methods
