    JOB SUMMARY

    CenturyLink's internship program is a 10 week, fast-paced and exciting opportunity to gain professional experience within your field of study and career interest. Interns within the Global Network Technology and Security group will be part of an accelerated learning experience, to challenge skills learned in the classroom and develop new skills while working on active CenturyLink work projects. Threat Hunting Operations and Research (THOR) proactively protects CenturyLink and CenturyLink's SLM customers from emerging and existing threats by conducting hunts on CenturyLink enterprise infrastructure and on the SLM platform. THOR makes recommendations for reducing attack surfaces, suggestions for improvements to defense stacks, creates new detection signatures for future alerting, aids major incident response efforts, and informs CenturyLink and CenturyLink SLM customers of threats or attackers previously unknown. This internship will take place in Broomfield, CO. In addition, interns will connect to our company culture through community outreach projects, engage with our employee resource groups and be able to develop their professional skills and business acumen through frequent exposure to senior leadership, cutting-edge technology, groundbreaking projects, and a network of mentors and fellow interns.     JOB DESCRIPTION

    • Complete formal introductory threat hunting training with the Threat Hunting Operations and Research (THOR) team.
    • Work through initial narrow scoped threat hunts that help build threat hunting skills.
    • Work closely with both the CIRT and FADS team on major cybersecurity incidents and threat hunting activities.
    • Identify key visibility gaps for CenturyLink and propose defense improvements for the enterprise.
    • Work with a Senior THOR team members to understand key threat hunting and incident response skills.
    • Direct and complete a final medium scoped threat hunt while working with Senior THOR team members.
  • Qualifications

    Minimum Requirements:

    Pursing a degree in Computer Information Systems (CIS), Computer Science (CS), or another technical related degree focused in networking, forensics, or cybersecurity. Enrolled at a 4-year accredited college or university; as junior, senior or master's level education status at the start of the internship (graduating after August 2020). Minimum Cumulative GPA: 3.0 or higher. Must have transportation to/from work daily. Must be available to work 30 - 40 hours, during the specified 10-week timeframe. Strong critical thinking skills. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written. Above average understanding of current cyber threats, threat actors, and industry trends. Familiarity with foundational networking concepts, such as TCP/IP, OSI model, key protocols, and network topologies. Familiarity with programming fundamentals, such as data and operations, functions, variables, and loops. Experience working in Windows environments, including registry analysis, file structures, and Windows event log analysis. Experience working in Unix environments, including basic shell scripting, data manipulation, such as grep, and file structures. Experience with cybersecurity tools, such as a SIEM, IDS/IPS, firewall, antivirus, vulnerability scanner, packet analysis, or DLP.
