    THE MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

    As an Information Security Engineer Intern in our North America Operations organization, you will work collaboratively with our trust and safety team to make the network a trusted and safe place for customers and 3rd parties, enforce the Lumen Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) and ensure full Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act (CALEA) compliance. Tasks during the 10 weeks may include processing criminal and civil subpoenas. Information Security Engineer interns will have the potential to gain access to all needed internal databases and our case/ticket management systems to begin intaking court orders/subpoenas on behalf of Lumen. You will need a high level of engagement and ability to take initiative, ask questions, learn quickly, and work in a team environment. Other tasks may include:

    -    Review and become familiar with Trust & Safety processes and procedures and how they work in compliance with federal privacy laws  -    Verify court orders and subpoena's received are authentic and are actually from FBI, Secret Service, or other law enforcement agencies by following processes -    Look up information in our internal databases to provide a timely and accurate response to law enforcement agencies -    Become familiar with DMCA, CALEA, and cybersecurity basics to help protect Lumen from compliance concerns and brand erosion by following daily procedures to respond to the hundreds of daily cases/tickets we receive  

    WHAT WE LOOK FOR IN A CANDIDATE

    -    Education Requirements 

    -    Enrolled at a 4-year accredited college or university, rising senior or master’s level education status at the start of the internship, graduating preferably August 2022 – May 2023. -    Major/Degree: In pursuit of degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, MIS, Criminal Justice, Pre-Law, or a related field

    -    Proficiency and understanding of: -    Basic computer skills needed  -    Basic IP Address and computer networking skills needed  -    Familiarity with privacy law and cybersecurity principals  -    Any IT related or paralegal/criminal justice type of education would be helpful 

    -    Professional Attributes -    Strong drive for results and taking initiative -    Ability to speak up in meetings to voice thoughts and opinions  -    Posses a selfless attitude and always be a team player- team first mentality  -    Open and honest communicator -    Attention to detail with strong organizational skills -    Ability to collaborate and have agility while making effective decisions -    Strong written and verbal communication skills -    Comfortability in group settings with giving presentations  -    Ability to interact with business partners and drive the conversation.

    -    Work Setting -    Ideally the position will be in one of the following offices: Monroe, LA or Remote- Work From Home -    Intern must be able to work 30-40 hours be week during the 10-week program (June – August) -    Intern must have reliable transportation to/from work location (Lumen does not provide transportation to/from Lumen office locations)
