    JOB SUMMARY

    Lumen's internship program is a 10 week, fast-paced and exciting opportunity to gain professional experience within your field of study and career interest. Interns within the Global Network and Security organization will be part of an accelerated learning experience, to challenge skills learned in the classroom and develop new skills while working on active Lumen work projects. INFORMATION SECURITY INTERNS WILL HAVE THE POTENTIAL TO MAKE CONTRIBUTIONS WITHIN THE THREAT HUNTING AND PENETRATION TESTING TEAMS. The internship will take place in Broomfield, CO from 6/1/2021 - 8/13/2021. In addition, interns will connect to our company culture through community outreach projects, engaging with our employee resource groups and developing their professional skills and business acumen through exposure to senior leadership, cutting-edge technology, groundbreaking projects, and a network of mentors and fellow interns.     JOB DESCRIPTION

    • Complete formal introductory threat hunting and/or penetration testing training with the Cyber Threat Hunting and Offensive Security (CTHOS) team.
    • Work through initial narrow scoped threat hunts that help build threat hunting skills.
    • Work closely across teams on major cybersecurity incidents and threat hunting activities.
    • Identify key visibility gaps for Lumen and propose defense improvements for the enterprise.
    • Work with a Senior team member to understand key threat hunting skills Direct and complete a final medium scoped threat hunt while working with Senior THOR team members.
    • Work closely with penetration testers to exploit commonly known vulnerabilities.
    • Identify key visibility gaps for Lumen and propose defense improvements for the enterprise.
    • Work with a Senior team member to understand key offensive security skills.
    • Conduct a penetration test of an application within Lumen.
    • Assist in an Adversarial Cybersecurity Emulation exercise.
  • Qualifications
    • Enrolled at a 4-year accredited college or university
    • Graduating between August 2021 - May 2023
    • In pursuit of bachelor's or master's in cybersecurity or another technical related degree focused in networking, forensics, or cybersecurity
    • Intern is responsible for their travel to/from work location
    • Must be available to work 30 - 40 hours, during the specified 10-week timeframe
    • Above average understanding of current cyber threats, threat actors, web applications and industry trends

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
    • Familiarity with foundational networking concepts, such as TCP/IP, OSI model, key protocols, and network topologies
    • Familiarity with programming fundamentals, such as data and operations, functions, variables, and loops
    • Experience working in Windows environments, including registry analysis, file structures, and Windows event log analysis.
    • US work authorization is required
    • Strong sense of urgency and ability to meet deadlines
    • Ability to demonstrate ownership and accountability
    • Ability to collaborate and have agility while making effective decisions
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Flexible and adapts well to change
