    LUMEN’S INTERNSHIP PROGRAM IS A PATH FOR CAREER READINESS IN THE 4TH INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION.

    THE MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

    As an Operations Engineer intern in our North American Operations organization, you will work collaboratively with our Network Operations Automation Team optimizing troubleshooting procedures and expanding technician capabilities via automation and tools. Tasks during the 10 weeks will include automation of manual tasks as well as software development. You will need a high level of engagement and ability to take initiative, ask questions, learn quickly, and work in a team environment. Other tasks may include:

    • Prepare and deploy network configuration changes to support audits and other projects promoting network cleanliness.

    • Effectively manage and deliver multiple projects to operational stability.

    • Communicate with all stakeholders throughout a project to gain clarification of requirements, provide project status, identify gaps, identify issues, discuss schedules.

    • Effectively estimate the time it will take for themselves and others to perform tasks and are able to influence the team's work to be completed within those timeframes.

    • Support existing applications and procedures.

    • Write documentation to support applications and processes

    WHAT WE LOOK FOR IN A CANDIDATE

    Education Requirements

    • Enrolled at a 4-year accredited college or university- rising senior or masters level status at the start of the internship, graduating August 2022 – May 2023.

    • Major/Degree: In pursuit of degree in Data Science, MIS, CIS, Engineering, or a related field.

    Proficiency and understanding of:

    •     Microsoft Suites 

    •     Hands-on development experience with backend languages like Java and/or Python and databases such as SQL/MongoDB/Oracle. Experience with NodeJS is desirable. 

    •     Familiarity with web technologies such as HTML/CSS, Django, and JavaScript. (React/jQuery/Angular are desirable.) 

    •     Experience working in Windows and Unix environments, including file structures, grep, and basic shell scripting. 

    •     Understanding of XML, JSON, and data structure fundamentals. 

    •     Familiarity with Agile methodology of development and user of Git (or similar) for version control is plus

    •     Knowledge of L2/L3 networking protocols such as MPLS, BGP, 802.1q, and TCP/IP is a plus .

    •     Networking is a plus 

    •     Python

    •     Yaml

    •     Version control, Git, Gitlab, Github

    Work Setting

    •     Ideally the position will be in the following office: Tempe, AZ

    •     Intern must be able to work 30-40 hours be week during the 10-week program (June – August)

    •     Intern must have reliable transportation to/from work location (Lumen does not provide transportation to/from Lumen office locations)

    •     US work authorization
