THE ROLE

LUMEN’S INTERNSHIP PROGRAM IS A PATH FOR CAREER READINESS IN THE 4TH INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION.

Be a part of an internship program, driving human progress through technology.  During a 10- week period (June 3, 2022 - August 12, 2022),  our summer interns innovate and make an impact by transforming industries across the globe and changing the world one connection at a time.  Our interns are presented with real business challenges and provide solutions that make a difference across all areas of the company, all while learning the skills needed to successfully navigate the modern workplace.

Join CenturyLink’s UX Team as we re-imagine and reinvent how large Telecoms can better interact with and support their customers in a way that is more modern, digital-first, intuitive, and friendly. Design user experiences used by millions of people everyday, take on complex tasks and transform them into intuitive, accessible and easy-to-use designs. Collaborate with teams of Designers, Researchers, Engineers and Product Managers throughout the design process—from creating user flows and wireframes to building user interface mockups and prototypes. At each stage, you will anticipate what our users need, advocate for them and ensure that the final product surprises and delights them. OVERVIEW

We're looking for a UX Design Intern to help us make the performance of complex tasks an intuitive, elegant, and satisfying user experience. As part of a growing UX team you'll collaborate with multiple teams to create software for our customers that is powerful, feature-rich, yet easy to use. The ideal candidate is a problem-solver and self-starter who effectively collaborates with other teams to deliver user-centric design. You will create solutions that scale, using multiple tools and techniques to communicate your ideas. Your fellow designers and our user researcher will provide you with support and mentorship.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Creating design solutions, with deliverables such as user flows, wireframes, clickable prototypes, high-fidelity mockups and detailed design specifications
• Presenting design work to fellow designers, as well as product and engineering teams, and business stakeholders
• Contributing to guidelines and design standardization across a product portfolio
• Incorporating customer feedback and usability findings into a design
• Partnering with product and design to plan and prioritize work, resolve issues, and remove roadblocks
• Planning new features, projects, and products; understanding business objectives, analyzing customer behaviors, identifying UX problems and/or unmet customer needs.

WHAT WE LOOK FOR IN A CANDIDATE

• Pursing a Bachelor's degree or higher in Statistics, Data Science, Computer Science information technology, or related discipline.
• Enrolled at a 4-year accredited college or university, rising senior or master’s level education status at the start of the internship, graduating August 2022 – June 2023.
• Proven experience in user-centered design with hands-on experience throughout the process, from user research to developing prototypes and collaborating on implementation.
• Experience in delivering wireframes, UX flows, mockups, interactive prototypes, personas, and use case development is required.
• Ability and passion to understand distinct user groups quickly and distill complex needs into clean, understandable solutions.
• Understanding of information architecture, design patterns, and interaction design.
• Work as a member of our cross-functional team, partnering with users, product owners, business analysts, and development teams to deliver business value.
• Ability to work independently, managing schedules in a dynamic, multi-project environment Familiarity and ability to promote appropriate usability testing and user research endeavors.
• Experience with design and prototyping software (e.g., any of the following: Sketch, InVision, Figma, Adobe Creative Suite)
• Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills - you will be expected to be able to defend design decisions in an articulate, inclusive manner, and be able to incorporate constructive criticism
• Defining, managing, and prioritizing your own work, juggling multiple projects
• Passion for the role of design in shaping digital experiences
• Using design systems, pattern libraries, and user research to help inform design decisions
