    Advanced Systems Design is seeking a Molecular Analyst Bioinformatician for our client located in Tallahassee, FL.

    This position is onsite in Jacksonville, FL, and requires in-person availability starting day 1. 

    Job Overview:

    Work with current staff to develop, maintain, and support production-grade bioinformatics workflows for Illumina next-generation sequencing (NGS) data used in Newborn Screening (NBS) programs.

    This role also requires hands-on bench laboratory experience, including wet lab techniques and running sequencing instruments, to support upstream laboratory processes and downstream bioinformatics analysis.

    Responsibilities include:

    • Develop and maintain bioinformatics workflows for next-generation sequencing data.
    • Deploy bioinformatics pipelines locally and in cloud environments.
    • Provide support to laboratory staff performing wet lab and bench lab sequencing procedures.
    • Perform or assist with running sequencing instruments (Illumina or similar platforms).
    • Support upstream molecular laboratory processes and downstream genomic data analysis.
    • Troubleshoot issues in the sequencing and bioinformatics ecosystem.
    • Manage genomic data lifecycle from creation through archival and restore.
    • Develop, manage, and curate databases used in sequencing analysis.
    • Train and support researchers in sequencing workflows and bioinformatics pipelines.
    • Evaluate NGS analysis tools and generate production reports.
    • Ensure compliance with CAP / CLIA laboratory standards.
    • Implement and maintain data quality control and laboratory quality programs.
    • Provide monthly status reports on development, sequencing workflow, and quality control.
    • Attend approved trainings to maintain current knowledge of sequencing and bioinformatics technologies.

    Required Qualifications:

    • Hands-on experience running next-generation sequencing (NGS) instruments is required.
    • Experience working as a bench lab technician or wet lab technician in a molecular biology, genomics, or clinical laboratory.
    • At least one year of experience performing sequencing analysis and/or sequencing workflows.
    • Experience using Illumina or similar sequencing platforms strongly preferred.
    • Experience supporting both laboratory sequencing work and bioinformatics analysis.
    • Experience with sequencing analysis, preferably in Newborn Screening or clinical genomics.
    • Programming experience in one or more of the following:
      • Python
      • R
      • Bash
      • Perl
      • C++
      • Java
    • Experience with genomic data analysis tools and sequencing pipelines.
    • Familiarity with CLIA / CAP laboratory environments preferred.
    • Must be eligible for Florida Laboratory License.

    Education:

    • Master of Science (MS) with at least two years of work/research experience in bioinformatics, molecular biology, biology, biochemistry or other related field OR Bachelor of Science (BS) with three or more years of work/research experience in bioinformatics, molecular biology, biology, biochemistry or another related field.
