    WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING...

    The Network Cyber Security Center (NCC) analyst reviews security events from around the Verizon wireline and wireless network infrastructure and responds to threats once validated. The analyst will actively participate in methods of procedure designed to prepare, detect, contain, remediate, recover and learn from cybersecurity threats. The analyst conducts proactive computer network defense operations based on established procedures. The analyst ensures compliance with Verizon policies, technical standards, and industry best practices. The analyst provides recommendations to systems and network administrators and system users to implement corrective actions to mitigate threats.

    IN THIS ROLE, YOU MAY HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO ASSIST PROFESSIONALS AS THEY DO THE FOLLOWING WORK TO SUPPORT VERIZON’S CUSTOMERS:

    • Security event monitoring of the Verizon networks and systems.
    • Work with technical staff members to resolve security events.
    • Perform incident response and investigations using established procedures
    • Work within Splunk to identify anomalies, malware, exploit attempts and other attacks on Verizon network infrastructure and data.
    • Provide feedback to improve the accuracy of automated detection rules.
    • Resolve security event tickets in a timely manner per established guidelines and procedures.
    • Identify, document, and mitigate today’s security threats landscape.
    • Identify instances where automated tools have provided conflicting or incorrect information, and continue research to reveal the true state of the systems and networks.
    • Support process improvements by documenting variances in tactical response procedures.
    • Examine data from automated internal and third-party security scans and penetration tests, to confirm or deny the initial reports.
    • Ensure systems with critical vulnerabilities are properly configured and patched.
    • Develop and maintain proficiency and accuracy in monitoring, response, and reporting through tactical cyber incident monitoring.

    WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR...

    WHAT YOU NEED TO HAVE…

    • Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s degree program in Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Science, Cyber Security or related major with an completion date from December 2020 to June 2022.
    • Authorization to work in the U.S. without restrictions or need for future sponsorship.

    EVEN BETTER IF YOU HAVE….

    • Splunk Enterprise Security or similar SIEM experience.
    • An analytic mindset is critical. Strong communication skills are required with the ability to engage with system and network administrators, systems users and managers.
    • Experience with configuration of operating systems to include: security controls, malware remediation, and desktop/server technical support.
    • Experience with different host based protections, email gateways and proxy technologies.
    • Traditional network monitoring experience is preferred with packet/protocol analysis and hands-on system or network administrative experience with major operating systems.
    • Familiarity with forensic analysis and big data concepts.
    • Experience in the installation/configuration of various operating systems including Windows and UNIX. Virus remediation and desktop/server technical support.
    • Knowledge of desktop and server based computing systems such as Windows and UNIX.
    • Working level knowledge of networking principles and advanced troubleshooting techniques.
    • Scripting language skills, Splunk searching and/or regular expression creation experience to support dynamic security event analysis.
