    As an Application Package Specialist, you'll help clients in the selection, implementation, and production support of application packaged solutions. You'll gain in-depth consulting skills, business knowledge, and packaged solution expertise to effectively integrate packaged technology into the clients' business environment.     Your Role and Responsibilities

    Being a member of our Product Analysis Team is a uniquely rewarding experience. As a MATERIALS AND PACKAGING ANALYSIS LAB APPRENTICE AT IBM, you will use the latest tools and technologies available to help to deliver state-of-the-art analysis work on IBM's microprocessor chips, packaging and advanced materials. Throughout your apprenticeship, you will work as part of a larger team of experienced technicians, engineers, and mentors in an interactive, collaborative environment.

    You will learn the essentials of chemical and electrical lab safety procedures. Moreover, you will be taught to mechanically and chemically prepare samples for chemical, optical, or physical characterization. Part of your curriculum will also expose you to IBM's latest chip-packaging technologies, and the methods needed to characterize the integrity of, and fail mechanisms in chip packaging schemes.

    You will be trained in the use of state-of-the-art tools to test, manipulate and inspect product chips and material samples, and work with our engineers to interpret and consolidate the obtained data. During your training, you will also learn the function, operation and adjustment of equipment used in our labs, in order to be able to recognize proper and improper operation of this equipment and to take corrective action as appropriate.

If you've had some experience with working with chemicals and / or electronic equipment in the past, you are exactly the type of candidate we're looking for.

  • Qualifications

    TO BE SUCCESSFUL, YOU NEED:

    • Drive and eagerness to learn
    • Ability to work independently, and in an efficient, organized manner.
    • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
    • Strong troubleshooting
    • Some knowledge or experience in one or more of the following:
      • Chemical Composition
      • Physical principles, laws and applications to understanding fluid, material and atmospheric dynamics
      • Mechanical, Electrical Atomic and sub-atomic structures and processes
      • Electrical Lab Basics and Safety
      • Chemical and Electrical Lab Equipment (i.e. XXX)
    • Basic level of computer literacy (for example Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
    • Good verbal and written communication skills

    Required Technical and Professional Expertise

    • Knowledge of or experience with working with chemical composition, structure, and properties of substances and of the chemical processes and transformations that they undergo. This includes uses of chemicals and their interactions, danger signs, production techniques, and disposal methods.
    • Willingness to complete the requirements of the apprenticeship program

    Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise

    • Knowledge of physical principles, laws, their interrelationships, and applications to understanding fluid, material, and atmospheric dynamics, and mechanical, electrical, atomic and sub- atomic structures and processes.
    • Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services.
