    What you’ll be doing...

We're looking for a seasoned Principal Data Engineer to shape the future of customer service data products for both our Verizon Consumer Group (VCG) and Verizon Business Group (VBG). In this pivotal role, you'll define, drive, and execute the strategy and vision for data products related to customer interactions (chats, calls, cases). Your mission will be to build digital and AI-first data products and analytical assets that directly enhance both the customer experience and the employee experience across Verizon's customer service teams.

You'll lead the design and development of scalable, end-to-end ETL data pipelines, with a primary focus on Google Cloud Platform (GCP). This is a hands-on position requiring deep expertise in data ingestion, curation, and product delivery. You'll leverage your proficiency in SQL, Python, and GCP's native tools such as BigQuery, Dataflow, Cloud Composer, Pub/Sub, and Spanner. While GCP is our core platform, a strong understanding of diverse data ecosystems, including Teradata and Hadoop, will also be highly valued for broader architectural insights. You'll also be responsible for maintaining the quality and integrity of these critical data pipelines.

    • Developing high-quality code that meets standards and delivers desired functionality using cutting-edge technology.

    • Programing components, developing features, and frameworks.

    • Working independently and contributing to immediate and cross-functional teams.

    • Participating in design discussions and contribute to architectural decisions.

    • Analyzing problem statements, break down problems, and provide solutions.

    • Taking ownership of large tasks, delivering on time, and mentoring team members.

    • Exploring alternate technologies and approaches to solve problems.

    • Following an agile-based approach to deliver data products.

    What we’re looking for...

    You’ll need to have:

    • Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience

    • Six or more years of relevant experience required, demonstrated through one or a combination of work and/or military experience, or specialized training.

    • Hands-on experience in designing and building data pipelines using NiFi, Airflow, or Apache Beam in GCP (Dataproc and BigQuery) for ETL jobs.

    • Experience in data warehousing, Data Lakes, and big data platforms.

    • Strong leadership, communication, persuasion, and collaboration skills.

Even better if you have one or more of the following:

    • Programming experience with GCP tools such as Dataproc, Cloud Shell SDK, Cloud Composer, Google Cloud Storage (GCS), Cloud Functions, and BigQuery.

    • Experience collaborating with data engineers, architects, data scientists, and enterprise platform teams in designing and deploying data products and ML models in production.

    • Experience in designing and deploying Hadoop clusters and various big data analytical tools, including HDFS, PIG, Hive, Sqoop, Spark, and Oozie.

    • Hands-on experience implementing real-time solutions using Apache Beam SDK with Dataflow, Spark, or Flink as runners.

    • Experience with real-time data streaming technologies such as Google Pub/Sub and Apache Kafka.

    • Proficiency in serialization concepts and formats such as Avro, Parquet, and Protobuf.

    • Experience with advanced transformations and windowing functions in real-time data processing.

    • Experience with Google Dataflow templates for creating reusable and scalable data processing pipelines.

    • Experience with Google Data Catalog and other Google Cloud APIs for monitoring, querying, and billing analysis for BigQuery usage.

    • Experience working with at least one NoSQL database (HBase, Cassandra, Couchbase) and one relational database (Oracle, MySQL, Teradata).

    • Experience on DevOps tools such as Jenkins, Artifactory and Gitlab.

    • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to empathize and maintain a positive attitude. Participation in technology and industry forums on evolving data engineering.

    • Strategic thinker with the ability to apply a business mindset to data issues and initiatives, crafting cross-business strategies and plans for multiple stakeholders.

    • GCP/AWS Cloud certifications.

    • Familiarity with Large Language Models and a passion for Generative AI tools.
