    Your Role and Responsibilities

    The Security Department at IBM's Thomas J. Watson Research Center in Yorktown Heights, NY, has openings for software engineering positions. The mission of the Security Department is to conduct fundamental and applied research in Security, Privacy and Cryptography. We focus on building new and innovative security technologies in research areas such as Cryptography, Cybersecurity Analytics, Machine Learning for Security (e.g., Deep Learning), Adversarial Machine Learning (e.g., Security of AI), Malware Analysis, Program Behavior Analytics, Application Vulnerability Discovery (e.g., Fuzzing), Natural Language Processing (NLP) for Threat Intelligence, Graph Analytics for Security, Information Security and Privacy, Data Risk, Cloud Computing and Virtualization Security, SDN Security, Next Generation Security Architectures, Trusted Computing, and Ethical Hacking. We value research skills, innovation, strong systems intuition, systems building experience and a strong desire to implement one's own ideas.

    Employees in this role use a variety of formal and informal requirement/design artifacts to architect, design, prototype and implement software components and systems to meet the indicated requirements. They can flexibly adapt to rapidly changing client or project requirements inherent in a research project but are also able to integrate as necessary into formal products and services. They also ensure that the implemented components are tested and ready to be integrated into the project systems and proofs of concept. Software Engineering Researchers are expected to be agile in their development methodology, while also able to solve difficult problems, explore new domains, and work well across world-wide teams.

  • Qualifications

    Required Technical and Professional Expertise

    • Master's Degree in Computer Science or a closely related field are preferred.
    • At least 5 years' experience with a record of innovation and impact in some area of Computer Security is preferred.
    • Have a proven record showcasing effective communication skills in both technical and customer situations.
    • Demonstrated experience to drive a project from exploratory thinking to the development of a practical solution or service
