Your Role and Responsibilities

The IBM Z organization is seeking a software engineer to join the DFSMS (Data Facility Storage Management Subsystem) Software Development and Test team. This software suite provides leading-edge technology and autonomic solutions for managing what IBM has deemed the world’s next natural resource – data! This encompasses tiering, performance, space management, security, availability, backup, archiving, migration, and more. The candidate will gain opportunities to collaborate not only across numerous DFSMS squads but also with the Z operating system, zFirmware, Cloud, DB2, and Storage development teams.

With our transition to an Agile development model, opportunities are available to rotate responsibilities throughout different phases of the software development process including code design, implementation, function test, system test, customer support, build and packaging, product documentation, automation, and UX design. The candidate will also get to interface directly with clients as he/she obtains stakeholder feedback on solutions being developed and even optionally present his/her work at conferences throughout the globe. Required Technical and Professional Expertise

• Team-based software development experience
• Programming language skills (e.g. C/C++, Java, assembler, PLX, JCL, Python) or
• Software design, coding, test, and/or user experience skills
• Problem determination skills
• Oral and written communication skills
• Successfully completed an IBM Apprenticeship
