Introduction

This position is for an IBM Research Business Strategist to join the Strategic Business Insights (SBI) team as a Strategic Consultant. The SBI team's mission is to influence IBM Research's strategy and advance client engagements by providing forward-looking analyses of emerging technological horizons, industry pain points, and business opportunities. The Strategic Consultant is responsible for accelerating IBM's entry into the market and to generate revenue with new innovative technologies from Research. The team will work in critical emerging areas to identify key technologies, develop and articulate the associated use cases and business value, and drive engagements with clients to nurture and mature the offerings for eventual hand-off to the appropriate IBM brand team.

Your Role and Responsibilities

You will be responsible for leading business and strategic projects for key IBM Research and Corporate initiatives, e.g., Global Technology Outlook (GTO) and Grand Challenges topics. You are expected to have experience in leading technology and business consulting projects. You should be familiar with new and emerging innovation and business models, and also be able to learn a new technical topic in a timely manner.

Also, you should be able to perform fact-based quantitative analysis, hypothesis-driven research, data gathering, and market research as part of the creation of strategy recommendations deliverables. You should have proven professional experience with complex projects that span organizational boundaries as the role will require the ability to coordinate and motivate multiple organizations, divisions and stakeholders. You will work in a demanding, dynamic, and high-profile environment while being closely paired with researchers and senior stakeholders from Research and IBM Brands. Executive presence, the ability to communicate clearly and effectively, and the ability to work with both technical and business leaders is a must.
