    Gibbs & Cox is seeking a STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING INTERN to join our organization in the Summer of 2023.

    Our experience encompasses preliminary and contract-level design package development, to detail design and engineering, production design, and through-life support. As an independent naval architecture and marine engineering firm, the Company employs engineers, designers, and analysts from all of the traditional engineering disciplines including naval architecture, propulsion, mechanical/auxiliaries, structural, electrical; as well as program, administrative and financial management. This broad spectrum of capability allows Gibbs & Cox, Inc. to provide fully integrated and engineered solutions to the most challenging design problems. The Company has participated on numerous industry design and engineering teams and has contributed to ongoing, hull mechanical and electrical research and development activities.

    Primary Responsibilities:

    The candidate will perform structural calculations of ship structures. Analyses may be performed by manual techniques, excel spreadsheets or with finite element software. Calculations may include but are not limited to sizing scantlings for hull girder longitudinal strength and secondary loads such as hydrostatic pressures, wind and ice loads, and vehicle loads. Calculations may also include foundation design subjected to environmental loads and/or shock. Results from calculations may be recorded in reports or presentations. Candidate may read requirements from rule sets or specifications. 

    Basic Qualifications

    • Pursuing a BS degree from an accredited college/university in Ocean, Mechanical or Civil Engineering and having completed several structural engineering classes

    • Working knowledge of Excel

    • US citizenship required

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Finite Element experience

    PAY RANGE:

    • $44,200.00 - $68,000.00 - $91,800.00

    The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
