What you'll be doing:
We are looking for a technically proficient and highly organized System Performance Engineer to join our Software Engineering team. This role bridges the gap between network performance needs and software delivery, acting as a key liaison between system performance stakeholders, developers, and vendors. This role will be responsible for driving requirements, validating enhancements, and ensuring tool reliability and accuracy that supports our Verizon 4G and 5G RAN/Core network.
You will be responsible for the following but not limited to:
Serving as the primary liaison between performance engineering teams and software developers, translating business and network performance requirements into technical solutions.
Owning and managing the performance tool lifecycle, including requirement gathering, design validation, user acceptance, and regression testing.
Guiding and collaborating with developers to ensure accurate implementation of features and changes aligned with business and performance goals.
Coordinating and working directly with vendors such as Ericsson, Samsung, Cisco, Spider cloud and Nokia, providing guidance and managing tool integration and support.
Leading contractor resources, assign tasks, track progress, and ensure timely delivery of tool updates and reporting accuracy.
Maintaining up-to-date and actionable performance dashboards and reporting tools, ensuring alignment with evolving network KPIs.
Using scripting skills (Python preferred) to automate analytics, reporting, and other tool functions.
Analyzing system performance data to identify trends, validate issues, and support optimization strategies.
Working closely with cross-functional teams, including Verizon HQ planning and service performance, to align tool enhancements with broader network goals.
Performing end-to-end solution validation, regression testing, and ensuring high-quality tool delivery.
Leveraging knowledge of OSS systems, performance analytics, and vendor platforms to drive tool and performance improvement.
What we’re looking for…
You’ll need to have:
Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience.
Three or more years of relevant experience required, demonstrated through work experience and/or military experience.
Knowledge of 4G and 5G wireless technologies, KPIs, counters, and network architecture.
Experience in VoLTE, VoNR, SIP, and related voice/data service performance.
Even better if you have one or more of the following:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
Experience in system performance, performance engineering, network optimization and supporting analytics/reporting platforms.
Understanding of 4G and 5G wireless technologies, KPIs, counters, and network architecture.
Experience in any of the scripting languages - Python for tool automation and analysis.
Experience interacting with and supporting vendors such as Ericsson, Samsung, Cisco, Spider cloud and Nokia.
Familiarity with OSS systems and performance data analytics tools.
Experience leading contractors or support teams with effective task management and delivery follow-through.
Possess good communication, analytical thinking, attention to detail and skills with the ability to engage with developers, vendors, support teams, and Verizon HQ stakeholders.
Familiar with software development processes, including hands-on experience with JIRA, Git, and Confluence.
