    Rocket Software seeks an enthusiastic Technical Writing Intern in either our Denver, Colorado or Waltham, Massachusetts offices. Our environment encourages innovation, breakthrough thinking, diligence, and teamwork. The Denver office offers a creative yet casual working environment. Located in South Denver, our office boasts beautiful views of the mountains and provides easy access to a world of outdoor activities year round.

    The primary goal for this Intern position will be to help convert existing FrameMaker documents into DITA XML documents, using oXygen. DITA is quickly becoming the architecture of choice among information developers and technical writers worldwide. This internship will provide a thorough understanding of how to use a DITA-based authoring tool in order to provide quality single-sourced, task-based documentation that can be output to a variety of formats, such as PDFs and web-based help.

    The program also includes participation in a professional development program together with other interns, with a goal to develop and deliver an executive level presentation to senior members of Rocket Software’s Executive Team by the end of the summer.

    Required Skills

    • Interested in learning new technology, self-motivated, detail-oriented, and possess excellent time management and organizational skills
    • Proficient in a variety of editing tools and source formats (knowledge of DITA, FrameMaker, and oXygen, is a plus)
    • Can meet strict deadlines and handle multiple assignments simultaneously
    • Demonstrates an understanding of basic technical writing principles including topic-based writing
    • Possesses excellent written and oral communication skills
    • Working on a B.A. in English, Communications, or related discipline (certificate or degree in Technical Writing preferred but not required)
    • Follow the direction of manager or team lead to convert several existing FrameMaker documents into publishable DITA XML documents
    • Use the SVN content management system
    • Use the Rocket Doc-It publishing tool to output documentation in a variety of formats
    • Review existing converted documents for completeness and errors
    • Work with other Rocket interns to create a final presentation that will be shared with all Rocket employees
