    PRIMARY PURPOSE:

    Entry-level position with responsibility for collecting, reviewing, and analyzing data to determine relationships, trends, and issues

     

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Develop pricing recommendations and/or reserving projections by performing analysis that involves retrieving, reviewing and analyzing appropriate data and populating actuarial models
    • Assist with analysis and implementation of changes to existing pricing models and/or reserving models as well as the development of enhancements to improve prediction accuracy
    • Demonstrate ability to organize and summarize analytical data
    • Develop conclusions from data analysis and present results to stakeholders
    • Perform deep-dive data reviews that require analysis of trends, factors, and other data-related issues to answer specific business questions
    • Provide support for required filings and follow-up questions from regulators or auditors related to pricing or reserving models
    • Provide support for regulatory filings including state surveys, annual statement, supplemental healthcare exhibit, and MLR
    • Assist in analyzing financial results, profitability and forecasting
    • Communicate and collaborate with internal business partners in other functional areas including product, finance, accounting, claims, IT, and senior management
    • Analyze the impacts and benefits of new products and rating characteristics
    • Identify and implement improvements to processes (spreadsheets, coding, etc.)
    • Seek a greater level of understanding around products, sales and policy administration
    • Ask questions outside of individual projects, demonstrate intellectual curiosity
  • Qualifications

    MINIMUM SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:

    • Bachelor Degree or in-lieu of degree equivalent education, training and work-related experience
    • General understanding of the insurance market
    • Interest in pursuing ASA desgination
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Access)
    • Demonstrated understanding of relational databases, data extraction, and ability to organize and analyze complex data sets
    • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and project skills
    • Must possess effective verbal and written communication skills
    • Ability to project results, work with ambiguity, solve problems, make decisions, identify trends/patterns within data sets, and communicate root causes
    • Must be able to work independently as well as in a team environment
    • Experience in SAS/SQL/VBA programming
    • Demonstrates ability to interpret state and federal insurance regulations
    • Able to interpret data and offer preliminary recommendations based on the results of the analysis
    • Able to meet multiple deadlines and work on multiple projects at the same time
    • Actively participate in meetings and asks questions
    • Makes timely decisions, knows priorities and recognizes deadlines
    • Keeps commitments, produces accurate results and meets deadlines
    • Accepts and responds to changes within their own area of responsibility

    DESIRED SKILLS:

    • Bachelor or advanced degree in insurance, actuarial science, engineering, mathematics, statistics, risk management, economics, business administration or related analytics-oriented discipline.
    • 1+ actuarial exams passed
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Access
    • Proficiency with VBA
    • 2+ years of relevant industry experience
