    Careers in cyber security may allow you to experience work in the following areas. Interest/prior experience in these areas will strengthen your application.

    Advanced Threat Monitoring and Detection

    • Conduct advanced monitoring and investigative activities to defend against advanced threats; conduct forensics analysis to understand advanced threats; engage in ethical hacking to uncover organizational vulnerabilities.

    Policy and Control Knowledge

    • Introduction to a broad set of information security standards and frameworks (ISO, NIST, etc.); defend against data leakages by supporting end-user awareness efforts and implementing appropriate policies; aware of end-user behavior and business changes that may require changes in information security policies and controls; ensure well-constructed and specific policies and procedures are in place across the organization.

    Regulatory Knowledge

    • Introduction to relevant information security laws and regulations; keep pace with changing security regulations and standards; interpret relevant laws and regulations effectively in the context of the organization; support litigation activities (such as e-discovery); support interactions with internal Legal and Audit departments.

    Response Management

    • Direct Privacy/Security incident response activities, through investigations, corrections, corrective actions, and preventive actions; able to work with cross organizational stakeholders (e.g. Public Relations, Operations) to facilitate forensics related activity for company products and tools.

    Risk Management

    • Identify and assess the severity and potential impact of risks; communicate risk assessment findings to risk owners outside Information Security in a way that consistently drives objective, fact-based decisions about risk that optimize the trade-off between risk mitigation and business performance.

    Technology Expertise

    • Exposure to existing security and IT systems in the organization; keep pace with changing security and IT technologies; understand the impact of emerging business and end-user technologies in information security requirements and architecture.

    Vendor Management

    • Effectively manage vendor relationships and performance; assess the risks and benefits of working with external vendors; understands and is able to help the organization comply with the regulations and policies governing the use of vendors; maximize the benefits of using outside vendors

    Cyber positions may include projects such as:

  • Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Current Freshman, Sophomore or Junior enrolled in a four-year Bachelor degree program
    • Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
    • Demonstrated proficiency in oral and written communication
    • Demonstrated leadership skills gained from student clubs, community involvement or work experience
    • Must be authorized to work in the United States without requiring visa sponsorship, both now and in the future

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher
    • Strong, creative problem solver

    • Preference for Computer Science, Information Technology, and Business-related majors
