DESCRIPTION

The Corporate Archives at Liberty Mutual Insurance, the repository of a Fortune 100 company’s cultural history, is looking for someone to work on a short-term assignment digitizing key historically significant assets. This project will allow you to develop your skills in digital preservation, use your academic knowledge and match your interests to a job in a specialized repository.

This assignment is contingent upon our Boston office being open and the ability to be in the office at least 75% of the time to perform many of the tasks required for digitization. Our top priority is safety and the company follows a rigorous COVID-19 safety protocol, including daily health checks and a requirement for face coverings in the office. Applicants should be comfortable with these requirements and more information can be provided. The assignment is expected to last up to six months, will be 20-40 hours a week. Working five days a week is preferred, timing of the work day is flexible within standard business hours.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Oversee digitization of historically significant assets to prepare them to be imported into the repository’s new digital asset management system (DAM)
• Work with the Brand Heritage Specialist to prioritize and refine processes for entry into the DAM
• Scan materials and input metadata in accordance with the repository’s specialized schema
• Perform periodic quality assurance checks
• Potential for reference or other processing-related projects as well

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must be currently enrolled in a Master’s degree in Library and Information Science
• Must have familiarity with processing standards including DACS and working with controlled vocabularies
• Must possess strong communication analytical organization and project management skills.
• Preference towards a specialization in Archives Management or Digital Preservation
• Preference towards experience in an office setting or corporate environment
• Preference towards experience handling archival materials including delicate or fragile materials
