Program Highlights
MassMutual is seeking junior data scientists to join the MassMutual Data Science Development Program (DSDP) in Amherst, MA. This three-year program provides a unique, industry-leading experience in data science for top performing and promising candidates. Junior data scientists work together with MassMutual’s data scientists to solve challenging problems in fields such as finance, operations, marketing, digital initiatives, and product development.
Participation in the multiyear development program includes mentorship from senior data scientists, exposure to real world high-impact data science projects, in-house training and workshops, and tuition sponsorship for graduate level classes or other coursework at UMass Amherst.
At the conclusion of the development program, those who have successfully completed a series of data science milestones and have a proven track record of independently executing data science efforts will be offered a position with MassMutual, with the option of transferring to either our New York or Boston offices.

The MassMutual Data Labs in downtown Amherst consists of a dynamic team that is actively engaged in dozens of high-impact projects across the enterprise, frequently working remotely with teams based in Springfield, MA, New York, and Boston. Our environment and workspace reflects our dedication to innovation and learning. We hold weekly training meetings to present technical ideas, new models, or interesting code libraries. We also sponsor biannual internal data challenges with friendly competition and prizes.
Practical Industry Experience
Junior Data Scientists in the DSDP are fully immersed in high-impact data science projects for MassMutual under the direction of a senior data scientist. We provide every member the opportunity to learn new methods and gain exposure to different facets of a large organization. Data science projects typically involve statistical data analysis, predictive analytics, modeling, and machine learning as well as developing web-based interactive visualization tools.
Academic Coursework
Junior Data Scientists in the DSDP take graduate level classes or certificate coursework at UMass Amherst while working full time to supplement their development and project work and some choose to pursue a part-time graduate degree. Only those up to the task of balancing rigorous coursework with challenging project work should apply.

We are seeking highly motivated individuals to join as junior data scientists in our Data Science Development Program.
Qualified candidates have backgrounds in computer science, statistics, mathematics, or related fields and are enthusiastic about pursuing a career in data science.
We are looking for individuals who are comfortable working in a challenging, fast paced environment and are extremely self-motivated. Data science projects are often complex, so we are looking for individuals who are comfortable wrangling with unstructured, difficult problems and are comfortable thinking outside the box and taking initiative. Those who enjoying tackling complex tasks in a collaborative environment are well-suited to a position on our team.
We accept applications from both early career professionals and from graduating students with demonstrated work experience through part time employment, internships, or professional endeavors.
Qualifications:
Qualified individuals will have solid training in quantitative and statistical methods and are comfortable in one or more programming languages. Additionally, qualified individuals will be able to provide compelling evidence of independently executed data science project work or research.
