    Position Summary:

    The Junior Data Scientist will work with others in our new Innovation Center to solve business challenges related to sales and brokerage operations. You will leverage company and external data to develop predictive models and other insights that provide your team with suggestions for revenue and process optimization.

    Responsibilities:

    • Collaborate with other data scientists to develop predictive models, leveraging internal and external data to optimize sales performance, customer experience, and marketing spend. Build models in a cloud environment, and work with the team to ensure any business-accepted models can be moved into production.
    • Understand and translate business problems into data requirements for the team.
    • Coordinate with business analysts and data engineers to gather data for analysis. Participate in testing of data quality and completeness for modeling attributes.
    • Produce written reports and recommendations for internal consumption, including problem statement, methods, interpretation of findings, and business implications.
    • Provide ad-hoc support to internal clients for data mining and other analytics requests.
    • Technology is always changing. Continue improving machine learning and programming skills.
  • Qualifications

    Required:

    • Degree in quantitative field, such as data science, statistics, mathematics, computer science, finance, or economics.
    • 3 years of experience using statistical modeling and/or machine learning techniques to build models that influence company decision-making.
    • Excellent problem solving skills as well as critical thinking and conceptual thinking abilities.
    • Knowledge of statistical modeling and/or machine learning techniques.
    • Ability to communicate testing procedures and results from predictive modeling.
    • Experience in a programming language such as R or Python and SQL databases.
    • Understand how to transfer large data sets into a pipeline and preprocess the data for predictive modeling.
    • Continuous learner and passion for data science which could include writing blog posts, attending conferences, contributing to open source, etc.

    Preferred:

    • A background in insurance, insurance brokerage, or financial services.
    • Knowledge of software engineering best practices such as writing unit tests, using version control (e.g. Git), and writing technical documentation.
    • Experience working in an agile environment.
    • Experience building data pipelines for larger data sets and using cloud-based tools (i.e. AWS or Azure).
    • Pursuing a Master’s in a quantitative field, such as data science, statistics, mathematics, computer science, finance, or economics.

    Work Traits:

    • Good communication skills to provide highly technical, analytical assessments to team leaders.
