Job Summary
A day in the life of an Underwriting Intern might include:
Consults with agents and internal partners. Recommends opportunities for business development and service capabilities
Leads departmental improvement projects
Review individual risks for acceptability and handles those within authority, based on company guidelines and standards
Ensures file handling quality and workflow efficiency. This will include completing assigned underwriting transactions and tasks within established time and service standards
Completes assigned Underwriting transactions and tasks within established time and service standard
Alters policies and runs reports for the underwriting file
Conducts data collection and analysis initiatives
Participates in daily mentorship and job shadowing activities
Participates in the management of business performance as part of the underwriting team
Geographic location is flexible
A successful Underwriting Intern at Nationwide has:
Education
High school diploma or equivalent. Bachelor’s degree or current undergraduate student. Undergraduate studies in Insurance, Business Management, or a related field of study preferred
Completion of sophomore or junior year preferred
Involvement in student activities and/or work experience preferred
3.0 GPA or higher is desired
Skills/Competencies
Understanding of basic business policies, practices, and procedures
General understanding of data analysis and process improvement techniques
Ability to gather information from multiple sources according to company guidelines, to support proper policy entry and underwriting analysis
Adaptability and problem-solving attitude
Works cooperatively and builds strong working relationships with territory, field, claims, sales, and other associates to share and gather information necessary to complete work
Strengthens agency relationships through regular contact on underwriting matters, promoting profit and new business growth, renewal retention and service capabilities
