  • Responsibilities

    We are looking for qualified candidates for our Fall 2016 internship program. The internship will be Remote. Interns will have the opportunity to gain first-hand experience in web development, technical writing, or graphic design. This is a unique opportunity to get practical experience working with a growing non-profit while helping to bridge the divide between Western and predominantly Muslim societies.

    Work schedules are flexible, and we will make arrangements to accommodate class schedules. Course credit can be arranged if acceptable to your academic institution. Please consider that Soliya does not assist with immigration and relocation.

    Front-End Web Development:

    • Implement user interfaces based on provided design of the online platforms, apply changes, and recommend changes based on UI/UX research.

    • Build efficient and reusable front-end abstractions and systems

    • Develop and deliver test automation code

    • Research emerging technologies and user experience trends

    • Collaborate with other professionals within the organization

    Technical Writing & Documentation:

    • Write documentations of the online platforms knowledge base; including the users’ manuals, administrators’ manuals, and help tutorials.

    • With guidance, architect the master knowledgebase of the organization’s online resources

    • Transform the different users’ experience of the online services into written manuals

    • Review published materials and recommend revisions or changes in scope, format or content.

    • Collaborate with the developers, designers, staff, and contractors to develop a multimedia-rich documentations in various format

    • Assist the designer and developer in producing a multimedia-based content such as infographics, interactive multimedia, and video production.

    Graphic Design & Multimedia:

    • Designing attractive and friendly graphical elements related to the online platform, websites, marketing material, and social media channels

    • Edit and enhance property photography

    • Producing audio and video material and animated snippets (pre-production, recording, editing, distribution)

    • Design graphics, PPT slideshows, and interactive web elements intended for Drupal

    • Create a list of social posts or graphics for social channels

    • Assist with coordination of internal events including designing posters/flyers and other promotion material

    • Assist with layout and content of websites and newsletter

    • Making infographics/Prezi presentations.

    • Other ad-hoc projects as assigned

  • Qualifications

    The ideal intern will have the following qualifications.

    Front-End Web Development:

    • BS or MS degree in Computer Science or a related technical field

    • Proficiency in front-end web applications development using: CSS, HTML, JavaScript, JQuery

    • Experience in cross-browser and cross-device troubleshooting & testing

    • Good knowledge of front-end frameworks (e.g. Bootstrap, Foundation)

    • Good knowledge of browser-based development tools

    • Good knowledge of analytics tools such as Google analytics and Heap Analytics

    • Good knowledge of Drupal, WordPress and PHP

    • Passion for responsive design, development, performance debugging and benchmarking

    • Follow and promote best practices

    • An eye for design

    Technical Writing & Documentation:

    • A degree in Technical Writing, Professional Writing, English, Technical Communications, or a related field.

    • Exceptional written communication skills and strong verbal communication skills

    • Experience writing structured documentation

    • Able to take complex concepts and procedures, and make them clear and obtainable to end-users with varying degrees of ability

    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and a demonstrated writing ability

    • Intermediate computer abilities; some familiarity with utilizing the Internet for research and use of web applications such as Drupal is required

    • Familiarity with basic photo editing or manipulation is a plus

    • Team player, self-motivated, deadline-oriented, can work independently or with minimal supervision.

    Graphic Design & Multimedia:

    • Educational background in design, digital media, art, or a related field.

    • Strong proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Dreamweaver

    • Good knowledge of HTML, CSS, Drupal and video production

    • Strong written and verbal English communication skills.

    • Knowledge of Adobe After Effects, Premier and/or Final Cut Pro is a plus

    • Candidate must have graphic design experience

    • Candidate must possess attention to detail, and ability to prioritize projects

Today, virtual exchange is quickly gaining popularity amongst key international education and public diplomacy entities.
