    We pave the route for our early careers talent to go far and fast with accelerated career development. By joining the 2023 Expedia Group Graduate Program (EGGP) as a Software Development Engineer I, you’ll complete two 6-month rotations on different teams to give you exposure to some of the many facets of our travel ecosystem. While you will be a full-time employee throughout the program, you’ll also benefit from dedicated professional and personal development opportunities during your rotations to help you identify what excites you the most about your career future. You will be aligned with a permanent role after the conclusion of EGGP in a role we call Destination Role.

    Our Engineering Roles

    We offer multiple Engineering career tracks which you will have the opportunity to express interest in during the application process, which include:

    • Core Development - Design, develop and launch Front End, Back End, and Full Stack solutions which impact critical business or e-commerce systems

    • Data Engineering - Design and develop scalable cloud-native solutions that are responsive and resilient. Enjoy the responsibility of owning products, with a focus on DevOps and robust automation

    • Machine Learning Engineering - Build ML systems focusing on software engineering principles like CD/CI and code stability and put these ML models into production

    • UX Engineering - Focus on dynamic user experience (UX) while also keeping performance at the forefront

    EGGP Overview:

    • Team Rotations: two team rotations (in the same office, within the same job profile) to build knowledge of our business, across various Expedia Group divisions. Contribute to meaningful work that makes a positive impact on travel, all while advancing your career

    • Destination Role: after completing your two rotations in the program, align with your permanent Destination Role with one team aligned to your skills, interests, and position availability 

    • Onboarding: first week onboarding with our Early Careers team in your local office including introduction to Expedia Group and best business practices, essential new hire training, laptop set up, meeting your graduate cohort, manager, and navigator

    • Launchpad (Training): in-depth, role-specific two weeks of technical and professional skills learning in a hub location (Seattle/London/Gurgaon) to help set you up for success in the program

    • Learning Series: continued learning throughout your program to build technical and professional skills

    • Leadership Series: opportunities to directly ask questions and learn about the career journeys of our leaders during exclusive EGGP-only Q&A events

    • Social Events and Networking: build your network with other participants in the program during regular socials and join our Inclusion Business Groups

    • Support Network: mentorship from a dedicated structure of managers and navigators (buddies) as well as the Early Careers and Learning & Development teams; access to Expedia Group mentoring programs

    What You’ll do:

    Expedia Group is looking for top engineering talent to help drive the development of our e-commerce platforms. Our services are the nexus of a globally distributed system that spans many organizations that drive the cornerstone of travel platforms. That means our roadmap is deep and contains several innovative programs designed to make our services fault-tolerant and improve both our customers’ (travelers) and partners’ (hotels, airlines, etc.) experiences.

    • As part of our development team, you'll actively participate in all phases of the software development lifecycle, including requirements capturing, functional and technical design, development, testing and roll-out, and support

    • Design, develop, document, and thoroughly test your code

    • Own software components depending on the projects in flight as well as your affinities

    • Build your own automation and reporting tools to provide capabilities around the components you own and participate in solving production issues

    • Expand your skills in developing high quality, distributed, and scalable software

    • Provide quality implementation and testing of a component or feature with peer and manager support 

    • Drive technical implementation at the application or product level for small projects 

    • Supply improvements to solutions for a given problem 

    • With help from your peers and managers, you'll resolve problems and roadblocks as they occur and follow through on details to drive issues to closure

    Who You are:

    • Must be available to start on January 23rd, 2023 or August 21st, 2023

    • Must be graduating between December 2022 and July 2023 with an undergraduate or master’s degree in a technical field (e.g., Computer Science, Software Engineering, Math)

    • Must have no more than 2 years' professional experience

    • Must be willing to relocate to city of job location if outside commuting distance

    • Helpful to have moderate proficiency in any of: JavaScript/HTML/CSS, Java, Spring MVC, JSON/XML 

    • Helpful to have working knowledge of Agile software development methodologies (scrum, XP)  

    • Helpful to have solid understanding of object-oriented programming concepts, data structure, algorithms, and system-level programming (including multi-threaded programming)  

    • Helpful to have experience testing, automating, and instrumenting code  

    • Helpful to have effective communication skills and the ability to engage with a variety of partners (e.g., internal, external, technical, non-technical people)  

    • Helpful to be a quick learner who is always seeking new ways to improve and optimize their technical solutions.  

    • Helpful to be a great problem solver who is passionate about solving complex problems in a simple, effective, and efficient manner.

    The total cash range for this position in Austin and Chicago is $102,000.00 to $127,000.00. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.

    Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location and degree level. Pay ranges may be modified in the future.
