  • Responsibilities

    The ABA Counselor-Education is responsible for providing educational instruction designed to promote intellectual, emotional and social growth to an assigned individual in a structured classroom environment.

    They will assist in implementing individualized programs that are appropriate to the ages and populations served, specifically children and adolescents (ages 5-21 years) with autism and intellectual/developmental disabilities, including those acquired by brain injury. The ABA- Counselor-Education will typically be assigned to a single classroom but may be required to work with individuals from other classrooms, as assigned by supervisors.

    Some of the high-level responsibilities of the ABA Counselor-Education include:

    • Attend to the health and safety of the assigned students through supervision, documentation, and the following of designated procedures
    • Assisting with the clinical side of the assigned students’ treatment by following the procedures in their Behavior Support Plan and collecting data on their progress
    • Treating each student as an individual, managing their cases appropriately, and assisting other staff members in monitoring their progress
    • Become a productive member of our team by seeking out educational resources, attending trainings, and achieving necessary certifications
  • Qualifications

    Education/Training:

    • Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred; Minimum requirement of 50 College Credits Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) credential preferred.
    • Must obtain RBT credential through Melmark within one year.

    Certifications/Licensure:

    • A valid US driver’s license and a minimum age of twenty-one (21) years old.
    • Must be capable of attaining approved Melmark driver status.
    • Successful completion of employer provided certification in CPR, First Aid and Crisis Intervention.

    Experience:

    • Prefer at least one (1) year experience with specialized populations.
  • Desired skills
    • Working knowledge of Windows Operating Systems and Microsoft Office.
    • Possess strong teaching skills with emphasis on individuals who are emotionally, behaviorally, physically and/or developmentally challenged. Ability to implement function based interventions for the reduction of challenging behaviors.
    • Experience in the principles and application of Applied Behavior Analysis. Strong interpersonal and leadership skills are assets.
