    YOUR JOB

    The Corporate Counsel - Product is a confident and articulate individual with the ability to independently analyze and make decisions in a fast-paced environment. You will be responsible for reviewing and analyzing Indeed’s products for compliance with Japanese laws and regulations and offering legal risk mitigation strategies across multiple jurisdictions. You will be responsible for providing advice on Indeed’s products, services, features, platforms and initiatives, drafting terms of service and assisting in compliance matters. You are tech savvy, possess strong project and people management skills, and are accustomed to working with people all over the world. We are seeking a self-starter who thrives in a fun but results-oriented work environment, and is passionate about problem-solving while showing great attention to detail.

    Responsibilities

    • Review and analyze products for compliance with Japanese laws and regulations; work with the Product team and legal analysts on these issues

    • Review proposed projects, initiatives, features or services for the Indeed product, engineering and other business teams across many subject areas including background check laws, consumer protection laws, data protection laws and other related regulatory regimes

    • Draft and update product notices, disclosures, and terms of service

    • Work on ad hoc legal compliance projects, such as new policies, trainings, templates and processes

    • Monitor and respond to legal/regulatory developments affecting the company 

    • Work in close partnership with various other departments such as HR, Accounting, Finance, Product, Engineering, International Business Operations and others, as well as affiliated companies in Recruit group, to help identify and answer legal needs

    • Work on group-wide projects in Recruit group

    • This position will report directly to our Lead Counsel

    WHO YOU ARE

    Requirements

    • Lawyer qualified in Japan 

    • Minimum of 2-3 years experience practicing business law (e.g., contracts, corporate law, employment laws, IP laws, competition laws)

    • Understanding of Japanese employment-related laws, Personal Information Protection Act, and other laws applicable to HR business and internet business (e.g., Provider Liability Limitation Act, Telecommunication Business Act, Specified Electronic Mail Act) 

    • Interest in, and desire to learn, Indeed's businesses and the regulatory regime in the HR Tech sphere in the U.S. and other jurisdictions (e.g., FCRA or other background check laws, the TCPA, the Electronic Communications Privacy Act, and similar regulatory regimes)

    • Ability to quickly learn, master, and think creatively about new areas of law and tech

    • Flexible, well-organized and comfortable working in a fast-paced internet and technology environment

    • Ability and desire to work independently and with little oversight is a must

    • Ability to proactively work with a strong sense of ownership and communicate with internal stakeholders

    • Possess sound judgment, capable of solving problems and making smart and practical decisions with limited information

    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in Japanese and English

     

    Preferred

    • Any additional experience within a broader range of legal disciplines applicable to our business like consumer protection, privacy and data protection, and other technology-related laws

    SALARY RANGE DISCLAIMER

    The base salary range represents the low and high end of the Indeed salary range for this position. Actual salaries will vary depending on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of Indeed's total compensation package for employees.
