The Emerging Leaders Program (ELP) is a challenging 24-month rotational program designed to develop leaders who will position Nielsen for growth while at the same time investing heavily in your growth holistically to set you up for success.

    Develop Your Future with Nielsen

    The Data Science track develops future Nielsen leaders who can provide clients with the innovative data management and technology solutions they need to make critical decisions. Associates take on roles of increasing responsibility as they participate in exciting development experiences. Our next program begins July 2019.

    Rotational Assignments

    The program includes four six-month rotations over two years. These assignments provide challenging on-the-job learning and development opportunities. Associates work on high priority assignments in various business functions.

    Examples in Data Science include:

    • Global Research – Work with managers on research projects across the globe, including testing TV services and other global projects such as Life360, China 3-screens, Nielsen Mobile, and Nielsen Consumer.
    • Process Optimization – Propose potential research-on-research tests to improve current Nielsen methodologies and improve response and compliance.
    • Deepen Analytical Skills – Perform qualitative and quantitative analyses on data and apply advanced analytic techniques to derive new insights on consumer behavior and media use to help “tell a story” or determine the answer to a client concern.
    • Measurement Innovation – Partner directly with stakeholders and operational groups to conduct innovative research on a variety of projects.

    A day in the life of an associate may include: working with cross-functional teams to design, implement, and test new consumer and audience measurement methodologies, utilizing tools such as Python, Tableau, SAS, etc. to perform analyses to support innovation initiatives, creating visualizations to deliver insight, and summarizing, documenting, and communicating research findings to audiences of varying levels of subject matter expertise.

    Training & Development

    Associates participate in intensive, focused training prior to each rotation including:

    • Leadership
    • Product Engineering
    • Project Management
    • Business Process Improvement

    Networking

    You will have opportunities to network with senior leaders and colleagues during training sessions, small group discussions and town hall meetings. Networking is encouraged and is often cited as a key benefit of this program.

    Selection Criteria:

    • Significant leadership experience in college extra-curricular activities or previous employment
    • Minimum overall GPA of 3.0
    • Fewer than two years full-time work experience
    • Willingness to relocate to Chicago, IL, Tampa, FL, or New York, NY
    • Permanent US work authorization (required)
    • Anticipated graduation: Fall 2018 and/or Spring 2019

    B.S. or Master’s in:

    • Statistics
    • Math
    • Economics
    • Market Research
    • Research Methodology
    • Data Science
    • Quantitative Social Science
    • Computer Science
    • Computer Engineering
    • Software Engineering

    In addition to meeting the above requirements, candidates should also meet all or most of the following:

    • Experience preferred in one stat language (R, Python, Stata, SAS) as well as with survey or Statistical Research
    • Passion and desire for leadership opportunities and development
    • Drive to innovate and encourage others to innovate
    • Interest in project management assignments
    • Business/Finance/Sales minors are a large plus
    • Initiative, creativity, and a passion to deliver results that affect our clients
    • Effective decision-making and problem-solving abilities
    • Preferred experience or coursework in financials, stats, foreign languages
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Enthusiasm for streamlining processes
    • Disposition to learn from new cultures
