  • Responsibilities

    Under direct supervision, Technology Foundational Development Program (TFDP) role combines hands on IT experience with mentorship and an IT curriculum to prepare employees for a career in Software Development roles. Completes basic programming tasks including analysis, coding, configuring, testing, debugging, troubleshooting, documentation, application health monitoring/alerting, and implementation of programs. This job does not manage others.

    Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities

    • Performs system programming tasks of basic complexity that are often repeatable.
    • Responsibilities include performing basic analysis, coding, testing, debugging, configuration, incident investigation, documentation, application health monitoring/alerting, and implementation of programs. Estimates work assignments at a basic level.
    • Often requires significant guidance from more experienced team members or a manager.
    • Assists in the identification of business requirements.
    • Begins to develop basic business knowledge and terminology through daily work assignments.
    • Applies knowledge of current industry trends and techniques to formulate solutions within the context of assigned projects.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Additional components of the TFDP role include:

    • TFDP new hire orientation where employees will gain exposure to all IT lines of business within Travelers through lines of business overviews, networking with IT leadership, and networking with peers.
    • Mentorship structure. IT Curriculum with specific coursework in IT in general and Travelers specific IT concepts that will set a foundation for a career in IT.
    • Cohort group that meets quarterly to connect and share best practices and discuss hot topics.
    • In addition to day to day management, employees will receive support from TFDP management.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Obtained or in the process of obtaining an IT or business related undergraduate or graduate degree and 0-3 years of IT related experience (can include one or more internship experiences in the IT field).
    • Minimum cumulative GPA requirement of 3.0 or higher.
    • Legally authorized to work in the United States.

    Education, Work Experience & Knowledge

    • Obtained or in the process of obtaining an IT or business related (IT minor) undergraduate or graduate degree with a preferred GPA of 3.2 or higher.
    • Preferred undergraduate/graduate majors include: Computer Science, Computer and Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, Mathematics with a minor in Information Technology, and Management Information Systems.
    • Demonstrated initiative and extra-curricular involvement showcasing IT skills preferred.
    • For experienced or career changing candidates, full-time professional experience in IT of three years or less preferred.

    • Technical Knowledge: Developing analytical skills for programming/ configuration tasks, identifying discrepancies, incident and defect trends and resolutions, solution delivery, monitoring and/or support of applications of basic complexity. In addition, demonstrates an aptitude for learning assigned supported business systems and technology.
    • Communication Skills: Ability to communicate thoughts/ideas clearly. Demonstrates basic active and effective communication skills with team members, including active listening and effective written and verbal communication skills. Effectively contributes and communicates with the immediate team.
    • Problem Solving & Decision Making: Able to recognize and analyze basic technology defects and incidents and develop timely, practical, cost effective solutions with supervisory assistance. Able to identify cause and effect relationships in assigned systems and applications.
    • Team Orientation: Ability to foster relationships with peers to achieve objectives. Practices objectivity and openness to others views.
    • Planning: Ability to manage time and competing priorities. Developing the ability to accurately evaluate and estimate new tasks. Developing a planning skill set including providing management with accurate and timely status information.
