    JOB SUMMARY AND MISSION

    This position contributes to Starbucks success by processing weekly payroll, ensuring our 130K+ partners in the United States and Canada are paid accurately and on time. This individual will provide training to other team members, follow best practices and support technology enchancements. Models and acts in accordance with Starbucks guiding principles.

     

    SUMMARY OF KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:

    • Prepares paychecks that require special processing including bonus payouts, correction of hours, off cycle batch processing, applying appropriate overtime rules, deductions, benefits, and accruals
    • Initiates, maintains, and releases garnishment orders assigned, within compliance standards, accurately, timely and consistently
    • Researches, responds, ensures courteous and professional follow up to incoming phone calls, emails and resolves cases from the call tracking system in a timely manner
    • Identifies areas that need to be monitored or analyzed on a consistent basis. Anticipates and prepares for potential issues and recommends resolutions. Reports payroll processing and system issues as appropriate.
    • Identifies, recommends, and implements process improvements. Leads cross functional teams in resolving process concerns and developing new processes
    • Performs payroll reconciliation for assigned cycles including validation of hours, earnings, tax deductions, employee deductions and general ledger accounts
    • Monitors system resources and payroll jobs while overseeing the flow of payroll processing to ensure data integrity and deadlines are met
    • Understands and coordinates payroll processing cycle with payroll team to determine if additional resources are needed
    • Assists in UAT of payroll related legal changes and enhancements to the payroll/HRIS system. Lends cross functional support to PRO projects and initiatives including defining business requirements, writing test scripts and identifying impacted population
    • Assists with mentoring and training of payroll analyst associates and serves as backup to Sr. Analyst
    • Reviews and updates current documentation for all payroll processes
    • Utilizes computer software tools to perform mass updates or uploads of data into the payroll system
    • Responsible for year end unclaimed property reporting and audits, including due diligence letters within compliance of the law. Maintains process documentation, validating policies and procedures against State and Provinciall laws. Participates in periodic internal auditing of key responsibilities
    • Maintains regular and punctual attendance
  • Qualifications

    SUMMARY OF EXPERIENCE

    • Customer service (3 years)
    • Multi-State/Provincial payroll processing (2 years)
    • Full cycle payroll processing, including time entry to general ledger entry (3 years)
    • Proven analytical and problem solving skills (2 years)
    • Experience in Federal/State/Local and Provincial labor law (2 years)

     

    REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

    • Ability to apply knowledge of multidisciplinary business principles and practices to achieve successful outcomes in cross-functional projects and activities
    • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
    • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
    • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and Access
    • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
    • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information
    • Ability to use 10-key
    • Knowledge of SAP and/or Kronos or similar software package
    • FPC (Fundamental Payroll Certification) or CPP (Certified Payroll Professional), or ability to work actively towards obtaining certification
    • Strong analytical and technical skills with attention to detail and execution
    • Ability to create Ad-Hoc queries for issue evaluation and resolution
    • Foundational understanding of payroll including garnishments, bonus payments, special payments and payroll taxes for US (required) and Canada (preferred).
