    THE POSITION

    This internship is an opportunity for a self-motivated and independent graduate student researcher to gain research and development experience in a fast-moving, team oriented industrial setting. The successful candidate will apply material synthesis and characterization skills to develop new products for the life sciences and support troubleshooting in existing product lines.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    The key responsibilities of the intern are as follows:

    • Design and execution of experimental plans, troubleshooting, data analysis and preparation, and reporting experimental results
    • Maintain a detailed and accurate laboratory notebook
    • Interact with other internal R&D and business work groups
    • Perform tasks independently with guidance
  • Qualifications

    REQUIREMENTS

    To be eligible for an internship, students must:

    • Have a B.S. degree in chemistry, polymer science, biochemistry, engineering or other relevant field
    • Be enrolled in an accredited advanced degree program
    • Have at least one year experience in a research laboratory setting
    • Have completed at least one semester/quarter of classwork in the field of polymer science
    • Be available for a 9 month full-time assignment starting in December 2020.

    To qualify, applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States, and should not require, now or in the future, sponsorship for employment visa status. []

  • Desired skills
    • The ability to identify potential problems and provide relevant solutions
    • Hands-on laboratory experience in polymer and/or organic chemistry
    • Have experience in free radical polymerization techniques and nano- and microparticle material formulation and development
    • Familiar with polymer characterization techniques (NMR, SEC/GPC, DLS, TEM, DSC, etc.)
    • Excellent written and verbal presentation skills
    • Demonstrated ability to work alongside scientists from different backgrounds in a team oriented environment
