    YOUR JOB

    The Dev Experience Team has an immediate need for an experienced technical leader of the Java Ecosystem DevOps team. Our team is dedicated to creating and improving the tools developers use in their day-to-day coding process. This includes the build systems and other productivity tooling. We own, in partnership with key stakeholders, the build systems for Java, Node.js, and Python for all of Indeed. We also own the Docker build environment, cloud development environments, and tooling for starting new projects at Indeed. The work we do impacts every other engineering team at Indeed. We’re looking for someone who can quickly transition into a subject matter expert for our Java ecosystem and contribute across a group of teams that supports all of our key build systems.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Technical leadership of the Java development framework team and coordination with the Frontend (Javascript/Node) and Python teams

    • Come in with strong experience in the Java/Gradle/Spring ecosystem including deep knowledge of the open source ecosystem and quickly transition  into an Indeed-wide expert on these

    • Guiding the selection and implementing of tooling for Java build systems

    • Coordinate work within the team and with outside stakeholders such as our Java Libraries Guild

    • Help engineers who write Java code that helps people get jobs

    PROJECTS:

    Our key focus as a team has been modernizing our build stacks, making them more performant, and helping Indeed move to AWS. We recently completed a major multi-quarter initiative to retire Ant at Indeed in favor of Gradle and move fully over to OSS Gradle.

    Our upcoming major initiatives that have lots of opportunity for cross-team impact include:

    • Moving from Java 8 to Java 11 and 17 (including the challenges of supporting a multi-JDK environment)

    • Continuing to move forward with our Gradle ecosystem by moving to Gradle 7

    • Automating the deployment of new upgrades for all supported languages to end users automatically

    • Tackling some of the challenges specific to Spring Boot web services in AWS.

    WHO YOU ARE

    You are an engineer with experience with Java/Gradle and DevOps technologies and a passion for helping other engineers.  You are capable of diving into details in build systems.

    REQUIREMENTS:

    • BS/MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics or a closely related computer technical field or commensurate experience and training

    • 8+ years experience programming with Java and strong knowledge of the open source ecosystem

    • Deep understanding of dependency resolution in the Java ecosystem

    • A desire to help other engineers and experience providing mentorship and internal customer service

    • Team tech lead experience

    PREFERRED:

    • Experience with automation using Python, Bash, etc.

    • Experience with large scale systems

Actual salaries will vary depending on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance.
