    JOB SUMMARY AND MISSION

    This position contributes to Starbucks success by building enterprise data services solutions. This position is responsible for design, development, testing and support for data pipelines to enable continuous data processing for data exploration, data preparation and real-time business analytics. Models and acts in accordance with Starbucks guiding principles. 

    As a member of the Product Data Management Services (PDMS) team, you will be working with a team of analysts and engineers supporting the Simphony Point-of-Sale (POS) application utilized in all of Starbucks’ North America company-owned locations.  You and your teammates will be responsible for ensuring that crucial data for the POS systems is complete, accurate, and delivered to the POS in a timely manner, and that the POS system is configured appropriately to support detailed store business operations, while allowing convenient usage so that our barista partners can continue to deliver legendary service to our customers.

    Additionally, as a continuous improvement change agent, you will participate in manual configuration activities, and trouble ticket resolution to identify opportunities for automation solutions for currently manual data entry processes.  You will work alone, and with partner teams, in the design, development, testing and deployment of those solutions.  You will also work independently and with partners to design and develop reporting solutions and tools that provide visibility into POS configuration and data validation for cross-team QA purposes and for senior leadership audiences

    SUMMARY OF KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Work with data engineering team to build and support non-interactive (batch, distributed) & real-time, highly available data, data pipeline and technology capabilities

    • Work with infrastructure provisioning & configuration tools to develop scripts to automate deployment of physical and virtual environments; develop tools to monitor usage of virtual resources

    • Assist with the interactive solution design and performance of implementation trade-off studies through analysis and simulation 

    • With team members, respond to escalated trouble tickets and participate in issue resolution

    • Perform root cause analysis to identify permanent resolutions to software or business process issues.

    • Adopt the team coding standards and help improve such standards 

    • Develop and maintain documentation relating to all assigned systems and projects

    • Coach and mentor other members of the team

    • Participate in team data import/configuration activities including manual processes, where they exist, using knowledge of the activities to devise automation solutions and/or implement optimized processes for manual data entry

    • Create reporting, visualization tools and alerting to increase work and preparedness visibility while reducing incidents

    • Interact with business stakeholders, lead solutions, improvements with business acumen; contributes to projects by providing expertise and limited direction

  • Qualifications

    BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

    • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, management information systems, or related discipline, or equivalent work experience
    • Proficiency in SQL and MS SQL platform
    • Demonstrated experience building data pipeline solutions using programs like SSIS or Informatica or through custom code.

     

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Data platform implementation on Azure or AWS is a plus 
    • Exposure to SOA architecture is a plus  
    • Working knowledge of C# or other similar scripting language
    • Exposure to shell scripting 
    • Experience supporting an enterprise application, particularly with regard to data integrations desired.
    • Experience with Oracle Simphony Point of Sale application or another POS application a plus.
