Student Intern Community Lawyers, Inc. - Compton, CA 90221 Internship Community Lawyers, Inc. (CLI) seeks paralegal and pre-law students for an internship program that focuses on providing legal assistance to low- and moderate-income clients. The program is unpaid however students may receive community service hours, work-study hours, or college credit if available through their school. The student intern will work to strengthen relationships with attorneys and community leaders in order to increase the delivery of affordable legal services. Interns will spend their time learning about practical aspects of legal services especially in the areas of family law, immigration, expungement, criminal, and eviction. As an intern, you will have the opportunity to be involved in consumer interviewing, preparing documents under the supervision of an attorney, community legal education, legal research and office management. CLI is looking for independent, responsible, and motivated students who have an interest in the legal field and a passion for working with underserved communities. The ideal candidate should demonstrate the following: * Commitment to community-based work; * Interest in the legal field; * Great communication skills; and * Bilingual abilities are a plus but not required. There is no deadline. Our internship program is year-round and qualified candidates are selected every quarter on a rolling basis, depending on spaces available. Student interns select their own schedule and the number of hours they will serve but must commit to a minimum of 3 months at least 6 hours per week, but no more than 30 hours per week.
