    summer intern Location: Louisville, KY Job Summary: Responsible for assisting staff attorneys with legal research for specific claims. Updating all of the state outlines and assisting with projects that present legal or compliance questions. The intern will be responsible for assisting with a variety of tasks typical in a corporate legal department, including, but not limited to: Reviewing and revising (as necessary) routine business agreements, non-disclosure agreements and other legal documents. Researching specific legal issues as well as corporate law department best practices and reporting those findings. The intern will also be expected to draft routine contracts and agreements as well as participate in the development of employee training materials in the areas of intellectual capital. Key Responsibilities and Duties: * Perform legal and compliance-related research. * Draft of memoranda and special project reports or presentations. * Attend and participate, as appropriate, in meetings and presentations. * Provide legal and compliance support to In-house Counsel and P&C Division, as assigned. * Other duties and projects as assigned or required. * Must be available for scheduled work hours or be able to provide 24 hours? notice to accommodate the needs of the business. Interpersonal Skills: Good oral and basic written communication ability and the ability to communicate effectively with the public and with co-workers. Education: Currently enrolled in a law school and has completed first year course work Experience: Interest in insurance industry, contracts, regulatory processes and compliance. Work experience in a professional environment is preferred. Skills: * A basic understanding of Case Law and Federal & State Statute/Code Analysis * Engaged and committed to legal research and writing * Well-developed organizational and fact-gathering skills * Advanced computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and on-line research using LexisNexis * Excellent research, writing, and presentation skills * Ability to work as a member of a team and independently, as experience is gained * Strong analytical and communication skills * Ability to multi-task and prioritize assignments in a fast-paced work environment * High integrity Creativity: Ability to generate imaginative work or ideas. Supervision: Work is performed under immediate supervision and/or in accordance with established procedures. Physical Requirements: Extensive time sitting, use of hands, arms, neck and shoulders for long periods of time with computer, seeing to read printed material and computer monitor, hearing to handle telephone and internal requests for information, talking to communicate with customers.
