    Job Description

    To enable Guardant Health to lead the disruption of cancer treatments through non-invasive cancer screening, the Minimal Residual Disease (MRD) program is seeking a highly motivated Engineering Intern to join the automation team in the development and validation of novel technologies intended to revolutionize early-detection of residual disease via next-generation sequencing in a regulated environment.     Do you have an interdisciplinary background in molecular biology, lab automation, and programming? Familiarity with design, development, testing, implementing, and supporting automated sample-processing workflows?

    THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL BE ABLE TO:

    • Operate, program, and troubleshoot liquid handling robotics platforms preferably on a Hamilton platform.
    • Apply scientific methods and engineering skills in efforts for scalable sample processing workflows.
    • Perform basic laboratory tasks (Pipetting experience is a plus)
    • Collaborate cross-functional teams working in a variety of projects to explore, develop, optimize, test, and put in place scalable solutions for sample processing workflows.
    • Perform independent testing and data collection
    • Contribute to protocol generation and presentation preparation.
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • Students close to or recently completing BS, MS in Biomedical, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering, Molecular Biology, or a closely related discipline.
    • Familiarity with streamlining workflows, developing automated laboratory processes, and instrumentation systems, from concept generation. As well as requirements gathering through to process validation and implementation.
    • Familiarity with operating and programming liquid handling robotics platforms
    • Some understanding of next-generation sequencing (NGS) assays and/or standard molecular biology techniques. (ie: nucleic acid isolation and purification, DNA quantitation, PCR, etc.)
    • Strong communication and collaborative skills
    • Ability to work, internal & external with diverse scientific, engineering, operational, and regulatory disciplines.
    • Experience working with MS office suite. (ie: Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
    • Experience with statistical data analysis, monitoring data quality, and troubleshooting technical problems

    Employee may be required to lift routine office supplies and use office equipment. Majority of the work is performed in a desk/office environment; however, there may be exposure to high noise levels, fumes, and biohazard material in the laboratory environment. Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
