    Job Description

    Testing is a vital component of software and algorithm development and software quality assurance experts with a background in bioinformatics are in short supply. As part of the Guardant Health Bioinformatics Software Test team, the Bioinformatics Software Test Intern will work closely with the developers to learn, hands-on, how to validate clinical software created by Bioinformatics team to detect cancer using liquid biopsy and support clinical operations. He/She will be responsible for validating these tools and driving the overall quality of these products. At the end of the internship, the intern will have credible experience validating the performance of clinical software in different regulatory environments

    ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Work closely with end users to lead the development of validation protocols.
    • Work with end users to collect data to support protocol requirements, analyze data collected and create validation reports.
    • Create and execute unit tests to verify functionality.
    • Create and execute manual/automated tests.
    • Troubleshoot, log and resolve software defects.
    • Contribute to software design reviews and code reviews.

  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • Must be currently enrolled, and soon to graduate from a Masters or PhD program, ideally in the Life Sciences or Bioengineering
    • Coding experience in Python
    • Knowledge of linux/Unix Environments.
    • An understanding of genetics and Next-Generation Sequencing technologies
    • Knowledge of bioinformatics tools and experience working with FASTQ, BAM, BED, VCF, variant annotation software, etc.
    • Software Development or testing experience preferred.
    • Ability to work independently, as well as to collaborate with a team to accomplish goals
    • Strong communications and interpersonal skills.

    INTERNSHIP EXPECTATIONS:

    At the end of the internship, the intern is expected to have completed the validation of a clinical software tool and present their learnings and results of their work at the Bioinformatics Departmental Meeting.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    • Employee may frequently exert up to 20-50 pounds of force to push or lift equipment
    • This position requires standing/walking/crawling regularly

    Employee may be required to lift routine office supplies and use office equipment.  Majority of the work is performed in a desk/office environment; however, there may be exposure to high noise levels, fumes, and biohazard material in the laboratory environment.  Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
