    Job Description

    As a senior member of the Bioinformatics Assay Development group, you will combine your knowledge of bioinformatics, experimental design, and data analysis to work closely with molecular biologists across multiple development projects, supporting novel NGS assay development and deployment as well as sustaining and troubleshooting launched assays in Guardant Health CLIA environment. You will devise analysis methods to generate insights from experimental data for characterizing assay attributes and improving both assay and bioinformatics pipeline capability. Your analytical efforts enable the culture of data-driven development which is one of the keys to Guardant’s success.     RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Analyze large volumes of NGS data and work in conjunction with assay development scientists to plan experiments in novel assay development, troubleshooting, and sustaining support of existing products
    • Formulate and conduct feasibility analyses to guide assay development, including statistical modeling or in-silico simulations drawing from a rich database of historical test results
    • Design and execute bioinformatics analysis plans to generate insights from experimental data for improving assays and bioinformatics pipelines
    • Write experimental protocols and engineering reports in collaboration with assay development scientists
    • Precisely communicate analysis results to stakeholders across computational and experimental teams and proactively advocate for solutions based on the data insight
    • Mentor junior bioinformatics staff on the team

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • PhD in Bioinformatics, Statistics, Computational biology, Genomics, or related quantitative fields
    • 3+ years of relevant experience in Pharmaceutical or Biotech industry
    • Deep understanding of library preparation methods used to generate next-generation sequencing data, including whole-genome and methylation sequencing, targeted sequencing, and RNA-seq
    • Demonstrated experience in developing methods for analysis of experimental data in genomics and next-generation sequencing, under the context of product development
    • Strong knowledge of statistics and computational biology algorithms for genomic analysis (including statistical methods employed in analytical validation) and cancer genomics (alignment, variant calling, general multivariate statistical inference)
    • Excellent communication and teamwork skills to foster highly collaborative environment, working with both experimental and computational scientists

    ADVANTAGE IF YOU HAVE

    • Experience in oncology NGS applications
    • Startup experience in a company or newly formed group a plus

    Additional Information

    Employee may be required to lift routine office supplies up to 20 lbs and use office equipment. Majority of the work is performed in a desk/office environment; however, there may be exposure to high noise levels, fumes, and biohazard material in the laboratory environment. Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
