    Job Description

    The Sr. Field Automation Engineer (FAE) will be responsible for providing technical support to external customers using Guardant Health’s digital sequencing technology. In addition, this role will support product development and externalization efforts for different Guardant Health technologies. The FAE candidate will be mainly responsible for executing late-stage development projects and providing inhouse support to field team placed globally. The candidate should be experienced with liquid-handlers (e.g., Hamilton, Agilent) Next-generation sequencing and other ancillary equipment. Scripting experience is a plus.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Identify gaps with existing automation scripts and procedures and resolve them.
    • Gather, propose and champion process improvements to support external system performance.
    • Work with internal teams to support assay design and conduct experiments to test assay performance
    • Demonstrate a solid understanding of business and user requirements and improving efficiency, throughput, and quality of processes.
    • Develop training and troubleshooting material for support workflow(s).
    • Work with Quality Assurance to ensure all documentation is accurately completed per regulatory requirements.
    • Develop processes which support our ongoing effort to provide market-leading technical support and customer support organization.
    • Travel to satellite sites up to 25% of the time to support field team
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • 3+ years of applicable experience in a diagnostics lab(industry or academic)
    • BS degree in engineering or science, with 5-8 years of related experience. MS with 4+ years of related work experience or a Ph.D. with 3+ years of related work experience. Preferred degrees; Molecular Biology, Genetics or Biochemistry, Bioengineering or, Chemical Engineering
    • Experience streamlining workflows, developing automated laboratory processes, and instrumentation systems, from concept generation. As well as requirements gathering through to process validation and implementation.
    • Hands-on experience with operating and programming liquid handling robotics platforms (e.g. Hamilton)
    • Experience in automated development of next-generation sequencing (NGS) assays and/or standard molecular biology techniques. (ie: nucleic acid isolation and purification, DNA quantitation, PCR, etc.)
    • Customer service experience including ability to effectively represent customer requirements internally
    • Ability to identify, analyze and solve problems with minimal direction and make decisions with confidence
    • Ability to successfully balance and prioritize multiple ongoing projects/tasks
