    Job Description

    To enable Guardant Health to lead the disruption of cancer treatments through non-invasive cancer screening, the Screening Research Team is seeking a highly motivated Research Associate to perform laboratory duties, as well as help develop, test and validate novel technologies for research studies with next-generation sequencing. At Guardant, we leverage the most advanced technologies and work with leaders in many different fields to create the most impactful and meaningful technologies for cancer management.

    As a Research Associate, you will work with Senior staff on the Screening Research Team, participating in efforts to develop new assays and biomarkers to transfer to our Development team. You will be hands-on in the lab performing experiments, both manual and automated (liquid handler) protocols. Additionally, you will be responsible for documenting experiments and maintaining laboratory equipment. An ideal candidate would have some level of experience with NGS assays and running automated methods for molecular biology assays.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Operate molecular biology laboratory equipment including automated liquid handlers, quantitation instruments, thermal cyclers, and next generation sequencing instruments.
    • Understanding of molecular biology techniques, with preferred experience in the areas of NGS.
    • Process biological samples such as human blood and plasma
    • Demonstrated ability to organize, document and communicate scientific data.
    • Team player: demonstrated ability to contribute in an environment where numerous contributions are required to accomplish complex goals.
    • Quantitative/analytical mindset - ability to segment complex problems into fundamental parts/basic principles, develop models and execute experimental tests.
    • Curiosity and drive for continuous improvement.
    • Collaborate cross-functionally to assist with drafting and executing research experiments.
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • BA/BS in Molecular Biology, Bioengineering, Biochemistry, or related field
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
    • Strong molecular biology lab skills
    • Experience working with human cells or cell cultures
    • Experience performing nucleic acid manipulation assays and protocols (i.e. nucleic acid extraction, PCR, reaction cleanups) 
    • Experience performing NGS sample preparation assays, running automated assays and sequencing platforms preferred
    • The ability to handle biological samples (i.e. tissue, blood, biofluid, etc.)
    • Willing to do manual, repetitive lab work
    • Laboratory position: Redwood City
