    Job Description

    To enable Guardant Health to fight cancer through data, the Bioinformatics Team is seeking a highly motivated Summer Intern – Clinical Genomics to join our Bioinformatics team to build tools that integrate all available data for the furtherance of patient care. At Guardant, we leverage the most advanced technologies and work with leaders in many different fields to create the most impactful and meaningful technologies for cancer management.

    At Guardant Health you will be at the forefront of combining personalized genomics with medical evidence to unlock cancer biology at a large scale. You will be responsible for using the wealth of available multi-omics data to implement analytical pipelines and characterize their respective performance.  Such analyses will require great attention to detail, scientific rigor and a solid understanding of statistical methods.  Best practices for documenting code and analyses will be followed, as well as for presentation, so that this work can make a contribution to patient care.

    You will interact with a diverse team of cancer biologists, epidemiologists, data engineers, and computational biologists to develop and test hypotheses in a collaborative and fast-paced environment.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Document all code and be willing to update existing documentation.

    • Work under supervision of Senior Computational Biologists.

    • Bring a can-do attitude to solve new and challenging problems in a high-pace environment.

    • Be able to present updates orally, write reports and updates, and participate in technical discussions.

  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • Completed Coursework in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics and/or Bioinformatics

    • Experience with Python is preferred.

    • Experience with at least one visualization framework.

    • Experience with Linux and knowledge of basic command line tools.  Experience with common bioinformatics tools is a plus.

    • Experience with oncology, developmental or molecular biology is a plus.

    EDUCATION:  

    Students currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program in focused on Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics and/or Bioinformatics. Juniors and graduating seniors are strongly encouraged to apply.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    • Employee may frequently exert up to 20-50 pounds of force to push or lift equipment
    • This position requires standing/walking/crawling regularly

    Employee may be required to lift routine office supplies and use office equipment.  Majority of the work is performed in a desk/office environment; however, there may be exposure to high noise levels, fumes, and biohazard material in the laboratory environment.  Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
